first oil change
I did mine at 3K. I couldnot wait until 5-6K. The oil was pretty worn, Not all dead. My good friend a highly trained mechanic who owns a honda Accord. regrets not changing his at 3k ( he did his at 5K, the way Honda states).
Anyway my car Survived and I just feel this was the way to go.
PS I really dont believe all this sealer stuff in the oil.

I have a problem believing that the oil that comes in the engine from the factory is "special" in any way. If there was such a thing don't you believe that Honda (or any other manufacturer) would be securing bragging rights to this feature? These guys make cars, not oil. If anything, just "normal" oil would be needed to secure the cylinder rings breaking in properly. I'd think twice about replacing oil in the early miles with synthetics for this reason.

If the engineers felt that after only three hundred miles the oil should be changed, then they would have recommended it. They are, after all, the people who spent a lot of time designing the engine. I personally think it is a waste of time for you to change the oil after 300 miles and think that you did a positive thing. Also to keep in mind, metals and engine design have changed tremendously since the 60's and for anyone that has sat in the "cockpit" of the Fit, you should know that it no formula racer....

I have done 5.000km and the oil hasn't changed significally - read: the oil looks almost like new (it became lightly darker).
So, changing oil quicker is not needed at all.
In the past 10 years, oil manufacturers have done significant progress towards making the oil better (more resistant). You can ask any expert on that and he will give you a positive answer, belive me.

Yes, things have changed since the 60's but did you think I was stating that I haven't had a new car since then? Granted, my newest next to this Fit is my 94 Twin Turbo Supra ($50K plus which was a pile back then), but I treated this car exactly as I described that I'll be treating this little Honda. To date, with almost 100K miles, the Supra compression is right on and it runs as strong and smooth as the day it was new. Will the Fit hold up as well? I would hope so given the lack of power per cubic inch compared to the Supra pushing 450 at the wheels.
As far as your statement regarding sitting in the cockpit of the Fit and comparing it to a Formula 1, that was a silly thing to say; you knew exactly what the point was. The bottom line is that anyone is welcome to treat their car as they wish but as this is a discussion group I contributed what I believe to it. Take it or leave it, no problem to me.

first oil change
How many of you waited for the on board computer to read 10% before having the first oil change ?
This is what the dealership and US Honda recommend.
I am at 5100 miles and reading 50%. It may be over 7k by the time I reach 10 % !
They couldn't give me an answer as to whether a 'granny-like' driving mode would fool the computer.

Many new cars have a 7,500 mi oil change schedule, but most Fit owners seem to have gone with 5,000 to "be safe". I used to change my Miata every 3,000 like in the "old" days, but with my Fit I've gone with the 5,000 mi schedule too.
Yeah, I think the manual and the dealer told me to do it ~7000 miles. I've previously done it every 3000 miles, but i think the oil change indicator does actually take into account the condition of your oil, rather than just doing the calculation based on how many miles you drive. I'm around 4K miles and i've been at 50% oil for a little while.

i do almost all city. stop and go. i only ask because when i bought this car there was some oil on the engine to the left of the thing that says V-tech. it might have been greese i dont know.
i asked the salesmen if that was something i should be concerned about and he said (of course) no - thats nothing. at the time i was still a bit worried but it was hot and i was wrecked by then and just wanted to drive the car home.
