The main reason it is illegal to have any tint in your front windows is so that the police can see if you are reaching for a gun or something when they approach the car.

If you were a cop, you would really like that law.

Yea there is a good thing about having some law about what can be done with cars.

In some Asian countries the laws aren't regulated so people have like green, blue, purple parking and turn signals. It looks tacky and it is distracting.

sort of OT, but does anyone know if the tinting laws apply to the state your car is IN when the cop sees it, or the state in which it is registered?

I ask because my fit is registered in Georgia (my parents live there), and 35% in the front windows is legal down there, and thats what I have (35% front, 20% rear, no windshield), but I go to school in Michigan, where NO tint is legal on the front windows, and I go to (co-op) work term in Chicago, which has a similar law.

So far I haven't been harrased by any cops, Chicago or Michigan, but I also haven't been pulled over (luck + a radar detector thank god I don't live in VA).

That is true as far as I know, cause I had California plates on my car in Virginia. And the cops in Virginia never gave me a problem about the tint.
