They are RARE but it would be worth a 3 month wait to get a dealer that was honest, and find a salesperson who you feel is honest and not just out for blood, even if there is a markup they may be able to help because they don't feel right about what the dealer is doing. A freind of mine did that at a dealer with a $1800 markup and the honest salesperson worked out a deal for MSRP for him (2 month wait).
I am sure many sales people work it so they get more profit but I think that there managers are the real culprits.

I've been waiting almost 3 mos. for my White Sport 5spd, I've had it for 3 days now and love it, I paid MSRP for it. I feel for anybody holding out for a Sport 5spd in any color because you just can't get them. Just a thought, when my buddy got his Mini Cooper he found a dealer in Michigan who had to order it, got it exactly like he wanted, my buddy flew in from Vancouver WA. did the deal and drove it home, he paid MSRP for it when it was almost impossible to find them at MSRP. Call around, think about it from this angle, if you can find a dealer in a major city within 2000 miles of you, a one way plane ticket is only a couple hundred bucks. Fly out, buy the car, drive it home. If you can find a dealer with the model you want at MSRP you can put a deposit on it over the phone with a credit card... Get them to fax or email you the VIN and paper work and go get your car. Call your bank and get pre-approved, once approved for a loan (most of the time) it's good for 90 days. Get them to issue you a check that you can take with you. Now if you're trading something in, this is a little harder to do, but you'd just have to drive your trade out to the dealer, I'd just look for something closer to home.

Back when I was stationed at 29 Palms, I bought my first car from a dealer in San Pedro, I drove all the way out there with my trade and was all set.

Good luck

We paid msrp, but your right socal is hard to find a fit. We called all over cali looking, found one on thurs. You just have to call everyone. Some dealers were claiming a $1000 markup just wait till you find one that will sell for msrp and wait till they get one in. We couldnt find anyone to order us one or presale it. I can tell you there will be no vbp's in a 5sp till aug. not sure about the other colors/options but dealers acted like ours was one of the last when we called around. Good Luck!

edit: btw there is a vbp 5sp coming into diamond bar in a week or so but they charge a $1000 mark-up and that will be the last blue till aug. And I think they will reserve it if someone hasnt already.

A co-worker hooked me up. His neighbour is a sales manager. That's how I got mine below MSRP.

I walked into a West Texas dealership on Thursday (6/16/06) and drove out with a '07 Sport Fit for under MSRP. Granted I did not get any extras like detailing, mats, etc., but I was happy with the sale price.

Now...off to the tint shop!

You might want to call Honda America. I worked with the internet sales mgr at my local dealer and bought at MSRP, but that was before they even got their first shipment. He told me their dealership does not and will not mark up vehicles above MSRP and that Honda frowns on it. I'd be interested to hear what the corporate people have to say on the subject, if anything. Corporate rates dealerships, but I doubt they'll let you in on which ones are on their "A" list. If enough consumers squawk, they may be a little worried about the bad P.R. At least it might help Honda realize the demand for the Fit. If they think they'll lose business to Toyota and Nissan, maybe they'll ramp up Fit production!

It wasn't too hard to find dealers in DFW who will sell at MSRP (avoid Honda Cars of McKinney though!). Problem is getting what you want in a reasonable amount of time. I got lucky and it only took 3 weeks from order to delivery since I found a dealer that had one coming in that wasn't claimed - VBP Sport 5MT.

Does anyone know the supply of Fits based on trim and colors?

I am just trying to get a silver sport automatic and it seems like this is a common choice... but perhaps that's why they sell that much faster.

With Honda only planning on bringing 42k to the US in 06'. The big dealers get 3-5 per month smaller get fewer. The vehicle only has 400-600 dollars of markup there isn't a lot of room to discount. You won't see 10 fits sitting on dealers lots any time soon. MSRP id a fair price but it is a supply and demand. I could not Imagine a dealer shipping a car from another state and not charging the customer the cost of shipping. I wish it was different because i sell tham but it is what it is. The 08 models will be built in the US so consider yourself lucky to get a J car.

I'm a little surprised the US dealers get so few cars.

As posted elsewhere on this forum, a sales rep at the largest dealer in Vancouver is getting 60 for June, and even the dealer I'm buying from is getting 8. And there's like 9 dealerships in the immediate publictransportable area.

That is down right amazing, the closest dealer to me said that they were not going to get but 3 more for the rest of the year!! And those are already sold. Some poor sole is going to be waiting until December for their car.

Walked into the closest Honda dealer to my home on May first and paid MRSP with a $500 deposit to hold the car which I picked up on Memorial day. No added options just an easy deal.

If you're willing to spend a couple of thousand more, you can get a lot more vehicle for the money this summer on 2006 close-outs. A Subie Outback Sport comes to mind. All wheel drive and tons of standard equipment. Looks like oil prices will be going down so the cost difference in gas between a Fit and that Subie isn't much as a part of total vehicle operating costs.

Also, Mazda3 comes to mind. Too bad Honda won't give the U.S. a Civic hatch and so few Fits.
I tried to find a mazda3 i touring manual transmission to test drive. Found out mazda isn't making them anymore, and won't be until mazda's 2007 season. Some 3-4 months out if you see one on a dealer lot, jump on it as when its gone there wont be any more to take its place for a while!

I did the math also and the difference in gas between a fit and an impreza (for me, anyway) is only about $300/yr. Gas prices would have to triple for it to make it worthwhile to buy a fit just on fuel economy savings. Same thing preventing me from buying a hybrid.

Till then it isn't worth it, i'll take the superior handling and performance of the impreza.

I do have quite a wait, though, since I want the Sport in White and a 5-speed. I'm told there are none to be had right now in the entire US. Have to wait for a factory order. Hope my old Civic holds out that long......
