Seat belt reminder

Can anybody (maybe even someone that works for Honda?) tell me if there is any way to disable the seatbelt reminder charm every time you disconect your seatbelt?

I know that with Fords, they have a sequence of things you can do, outlined in the owner's manual, to disable the bell. Hitting the brake, turning the ignition on and off, etc., will turn off the audio reminder, and leave the light reminder active.

Dodge had the same thing in the past, but it was done at the dealer if you wanted it using the old DRB handheld computer.

I would prefer to do it in such a way that the computer does know the seatbelt is disconected, rather than just shorting out the switch in the belt buckle.

Please do not go into the need for seatbelts, you will die if you dan't have it on, you are stupid for not wearing it posts. That is not what I want. Legitimate responses to the question asked only.

Thank you.

if he can get a legit response WITHOUT flaming I'll leave this open. It is his life and his choice. He knows the possible consequences of his actions. Any flames will be deleted.

1st and final warning.

I know how you can remove it with ease. But I am not sure if the wiring harness remains the same as that of a Civic. If no one can give you an answer, I suggest you try your luck at honda-tech.com. They have a lot of useful information there.

I doubt a Honda Tech would be authorized to disable it. You probably need to find a way to do it yourself.

I don't think Honda would promote and/or allow disablement for the following reasons:

All of the air bags would need to be disabled as well because they are designed to be in use only with a seatbelt. If the computer know it is disconnected as you suggest it would most likely stop the air bag deployment.

Here is a link from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that has statistics on seatbelt use. Honda uses this information when designing thier car and realizes that safety is very important.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/inju...factsheet.html

Many states require seat belts to be used by law. Also an increasing amount of states allow for decreasing damage indemnification for those who don't wear seatbelts. Honda also uses this information because they must have the vehicles be road worthy throughout each state and country.

They put the beep in to protect themselves. When someone uses poor judgement and dies because of it they need to prove without doubt that they provided and promoted the use of all safety equipment properly.

There probably isn't any way to switch it off by turning the key for 5 seconds, putting it in D, with the brake on and the right blinker on then say 'walla walla washington'.....

You'll probably have to see about getting into the dash and find the actual component that makes the tone. I did so on my Tiburon, it was behind the fusebox on the driver's side of the under dash area. It was a little tricky to get to, but it's so nice with it gone. I can clean the car and such with the doors open and the stereo on with no DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DINGDING DING DING DING DING DING.... you get the picture...

I don't think that it translated so well to text. Can you post an audio clip so we know just how annoying it is?

Lol! Well, then I guess that is one of the few things that the domestic car companies did better than Honda.

Well, I know from experience that a car's airbags will go off if you are not wearing a seatbelt, so there goes the airbags have to be disabled theory.

I do not think Ford would offer this feature, and spell out how to do it in the owners manual, if it would end up putting them in court by doing so. Chrysler's also had the ability to activate and deactivate it, but did not give written instructions about how to do it in the owner's manual.

If Honda did not design the ability to shut off the bell, I will just have to find the bell and remove it manually.

I said "If the computer knows it is disconnected as you suggest it would most likely stop the air bag deployment." but more importantly "All of the air bags would need to be disabled as well because they are designed to be in use only with a seatbelt." If you read the owners manual there are numerous warnings that a seatbelt must be used or a more serious injury will occur. As evident by the links included in the above post. Wether or not the car itself disables the air bags; if you never wear your seatbelt it would be smart to disable the air bags as well.

As for the "it would end up putting them in court by doing so" comment. I never argued that they do it because the laws require it but merely that they do as much as they can so that when they end up in court they have an overwhelming amount of evidence that proves they require seatbelt use for the safe operation of the vehicle.

OK, whatever you say. Now please READ the first two posts in this thread!

"Please do not go into the need for seatbelts, you will die if you dan't have it on, you are stupid for not wearing it posts. That is not what I want. Legitimate responses to the question asked only."

If you have an anwer to the actual question, then I would be glad to hear from you. If you want to talk about seatbelt safety statistics and why they have the bell go off, go start your own thread.

The reminder is required by law and is deeeep in the software for the vehicle. If you do not wish to hear it by not wearing you seatbelt,(I discourage) the only way is to find a buckle, minus seat belt and click in. So check a junk yard etc.
