Yet Another Crashed Fit

My 2007 Blaze Orange was in an accident today. My girlfriend was on her way to work and she got rear-ended into the car in front of her. Everyone is fine (apparently), but I fear for my fit's fate.

We made it through 80,000 miles in 2 1/2 years, it would be a sad end.

So, total loss or fixable?

Sadly, it had been towed by the time I got there, so I don't know what kind of damage ther ewas under the hood.

I'm so sorry to hear that and hope everyone is ok... but as bad as it may look, the fit actually did a really good job in taking, reacting and absorbing both impacts. I doubt that there is even damage to the chassis. Find a good body shop and it should run straight like an arrow again in no time.

Look fixable but hard to say without looking underneath the hood and no clear shot of the complete rear.

For a moment, I thought that was San Diego.

Those are some long skid marks (for the Saturn/white car).

I did more damage to my car by running over a tire tread (alligator) that was slung off of an 18 wheelers tire I didn't damage my hood though.... I doubt that there is over $3000 in damages, but you are in California so it will probably be higher.

ohh man, that really sucks. sorry to hear. hope everything works out well.

I have a complete sport front end (less the headlights) for sale if you would be interested in it.

I also have a body shop that I can recommend you to as well.

Hope everything works out well for you and the Fit.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Again, luckily everyone was fine (no major injuries).

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to check my car out before it was towed. Insurance will be handling it, but luckily the local honda dealer's body shop is one of the insurance co's approved body shops

The worst part of it all, the rental I got is a Yaris.

damn did it hit a semi? it does look like the Fit was "well" damaged, i think you might be clear with mostly body work... maybe a front-rear end JDM conversion? or some CF love?

Glad to know nobody was injured!

Haha, it was a Jeep. Which had no damage because my fit basically went under it.

You can't see in the pictures, but my hatch was messed up too so... cf love? Perhaps.

any idea how fast the car behind the fit was going when it hit?

that took some force to push the fit fast enough forward to do that much damage.

i was once tapped from behind, without damage, and it was still a jolt.

well, better a broken car than a broken gf.

it looks like both cars were smashing the brakes when the hit happened, since their noses were dipped at time of impact. it's gonna be hard to tell what speed the hit occurred at because their speeds were probably plummeting and i doubt either driver was glued to their speedometers at the time of impact. but i'd guess...no more than 25 mph?

spearsoft, was your gf at a complete stop before the saturn hit her into the jeep?

this same thing happened to me once - the guy that hit me lied, saying that i rear-ended a car on my own. it was complete bs because i'd already been stopped for more than 2 seconds before the hit. the insurance didn't want to pay for my front-end damage, but thankfully, the car up front testified that he only felt one impact. it was a pretty stressful experience.

I wonder if a cell phone played into this... People around here will zero in on the back of my car and zone out while talking on those things instead of looking to see what is going on further up the road.

So sorry to hear about your accident but glad that everyone was OK. Hope you find out good news and that things are fixable on the car. Keep us up on how it is going.

Yeah, she had come to a complete stop when she was hit, so it was very apparent that the other person wasn't paying attention.
Assuming she was going the speed limit and based on the skid marks, she hit the car at about 25-30 mph. Who knows.
