Power Settings

About a month ago I got a 2008 Fit Sport edition. I'm trying to get the best gas economy and have been trying different cruise speeds and deciding whether to drive in D or Sport mode. Do the paddle shutters help?

Depends on how you use them. The only difference between D and S is whether the car resumes automatic shift control. I tend to only use S when on the highway with mild hills and cruise control, to keep it in 5th and avoid high revs to maintain speed. The single best thing you can do for economy is to learn to be gentle on the GO pedal!

I thought that S avoids 5th gear. Either way the Sport setting will tend to upshift later, meaning more fuel consumption.

When you move it into S, it downshifts one gear automatically. Also, the only shifting the car does automatically at that point is to keep engine revs within tolerable limits, otherwise you are on your own to shift.
