General Fit Questions
General Fit Questions
So a couple of probably stupid questions on my part but things that puzzle me:
1. What is the purpose of the trim piece that looks like a hat brim over the back window of the LX? You find it on lots of cars actually. Does it have a real purpose or is it just to somehow enhance the look? E.g. keep the rain off the rear window? Reduce glare from the sun? Improve the wind resistance?
2. The bar graph that shows how your mpg or L/100km - why if I'm coasting downhill out of gear does it sometimes show that my mileage is increasing ie. getting worse (I've tried in gear and out of gear - out of gear seems to be more of the issue but it happens with either)? For clarity mine is L/100km and the bar graph will often show multiple points on a coast. In fact I've had it where it topped the scale when I've coasted (this extreme seems to occur when the car hasn't warmed up). Most of the time it makes sense but there are these times where it seems to be backward.
Thanx

(1) My guess is you're talking about the rear "spoiler" on top of your hatch. Your guess is absolutely right. All looks. Here's an old thread if you're interested: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...tml#post910694
(2) If you have a new car, well get used to it first, so you can get the hang of when to pay attention to your mpg gauge and when not to. There's some lively discussions/threads about pros and cons of coasting on here.

Here's a DIY that many have embraced regarding the rear hatch: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...wiper-mod.html
The 'gauge' your seeing is a part of the Maintenance Minder System. Read up on it in your owners manual.
It can/will become your best friend if your concerned with MPG and come to understand the related issues concerning that.
To begin, coasting, in gear, the Fit activate a fuel cutoff control to the injectors and will result in optimum MPG. Taking it out of gear or touching the accelerator under this condition will show the graph drop because fuel is being used.

making the bar based on L/100KM could be a little difficult since the better you do, the smaller it should look... and seeing less is usually a "downer" for many people.
K_C, the Fit doesn't measure the amount of fuel ACTUALLY being injected into the intake, it bases it on something else (perhaps an "assumption" of fuel being used per rpm), which is why, when I shift out of gear, my bar sky rockets. And I can't really tell the difference in MPG in vs out of gear because of that.
Sorry, K_C, I meant the Fit doesn't accurately measure for the MPG gauge. Whether the ECU actually gets accurate info at all, I can only assume so, if you guys with SG2s have fuel info to confirm fuel cut off.

Goobz Agreed.
The MM display is really only an indicator.
I've found, however, it's a good indicator of how I'm driving and tuning an eye to it helps.
Fuel cutoff is documented by Honda as I have discovered, and you've seen [but I'll bring it forward for those who haven't]: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/eco-...f-control.html
Only point I'm trying to raise is that the MM gauge is a good thing to pay attention to, difficult for a new owner to understand and the fact that our Fits do offer fuel cutoff economy.
Economy, it's all in how you drive it and understanding why.
BTW why aren't you strategically positioned in front of your Fit in your new avatar??? At least part of you. I've always liked that touch_

I think that bar is in MPG or kilometer per liter mode, not L/100KM. Basically, the bar is showing the most distance per amount of fuel... ie, the more bars you get, the better.

The avg L/100km makes sense. I'm seeing 6.9 sometimes 7.0 but my commute is short and half of it's hwy. I'm curious to see what my consumption will be loaded up and driving thru the mtn passes to my place in the Kooteneys
The bar graph gives some idea at times (other times not) of consumption rate so I use it as a guide but ignore it when I know otherwise.
Interesting to hear about the fuel cutoff. The engine must still be running though not cutoff completely. But if I pull it out of gear to coast it doesn't reduce/cut the fuel? Not sure I understand how it can cut the fuel without stalling the engine but perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Thanx for all the feedback though. Amazing how so many people have mod'ed their cars and learned so much about them. Great resource! :-)

I get below 7 on hwy at 120-130 kph on my weekly runs on 401 to Brampton.
