Am I crazy for wanting to get rid of my M3 for a Fit??
i dont get while some folks think that BUYING A CAR will be a cheaper solution than keeping a car with poor mpg... especially with 22mpg, that's not all that bad.
even at $4/gallon you will need to consume 3750gallons for a used $15K Fit.. that is 82,500miles at 22mpg.. if $3.75/gallon that is 4000 gallons or 88,000miles...

put your bmw on as a partial driver and your fit as a daily driver and some insurance actually give multi car discounts I'd suck it up and keep both my dad had a 330 ci i miss that car and it wasn't even mine lol figure your finances there's ways to save money in the long run
Dont they have the same engine and drive-train?
How many Honda Fit did you have?
your e30 M3 sir....
I think that the fit is about the sportiest/practical econo box you can find bar none. Thats wht i keep coming back to it. This 2012 sport is my third in 4 years. I always miss it when i trade it in. I bought my 2012 on monday. And i sold my 2006 mitsubishi evolution mr the next day. I was really sad....wasnt for financual reasons, mostly for garage space reasons (and wife saying "wtf" to all my cars). I still have my 1988 e30 m3 with 37000 miles on it. I wouldnt get rid of that one for the world.

I own a GE, so idk if you'd be finding one for 8 or 9k for a few years atleast. I had a B13 Sentra SE-R before my Fit, and while it's not exactly a sports car stock, mine was modded to the point where it was basically a track car for the street (stiff suspension, no interior, FIA-approved Corbeau seat and louder than all hell).
Coming from your history of cars, and being able to appreciate a momentum car for what it is will definatly help to persuade you towards getting a Fit. The car definatly has potential to be the perfect "everything" car if you're a driving enthusiast like myself. I flog mine every single day through the twisties, and all it needs is suspension and wheel/tire mods for it to be an absolute hot hatch. The car has great balance. It will lack the power you're used to in the M, but the powerband will feel like the SOHC Hondas of before, with better gearing and it begs you to hit redline every time. I have a buddy who had a d15b swapped EG...The Fit feels almost identical to that car powerband-wise.
Add all this to the fact that there's so much room back there you could live out of it, and it was the perfect choice for me.

Not crazy at all since you are doing it for financial stability and education. Though it's sad that you can't have both now, you can have both later on.
You are forgetting that the M3 requires 91 octance fuel while the Fit only requires 87 octane. Then add lower maintenance and insurane it starts making more sense.
If 88StreetDoc already owns the M3 outright, he won't be spending $8k to get into a used Fit. There might even be some fitfreaks willing to trade.
