Unhappy Pay now or pay later... RE: 118 mpg Fit EV

Interesting read... Pros and cons... for the price of almost 2x gas Fits... an expensive grocery-getter for it's limited driving range...

Compared to other Ev's it's pretty cheap. Not to mention you get a pretty nice tax deduction.

Yeah I meant that for all. With the tax deduction its only like 30k. Worth it if you can use the car.

But not nearly as fun as the Tesla. That thing is a monster up until about 110 mph.

I did a few 0-90 runs in my friend's and still had plenty of battery. It's amazing to not hear anything and just get sucked into the back of your seat. I would totally buy one if I had the $$. Even though a custom twin-charged elise wouldnt be bad either.

To bad Tesla's break down left and right and if you ever let the battery die you have to pay out the ass to replace it.....The Fit EV seems promissing though. If more people buy EV's the prices should go down. Anyone wanna organize a group buy?

My buddy hasn't had any problems with his and he's had it for almost a year now.

I thought it was the Fiskars that you had to replace the battery if it died, not the Tesla.

I'd rather get the FR-S.

JDMEGO, if anyone's familiar, traded in his 2012 Fit and got the FR-S.

I think that applies to all EV's. They just have safety measures implimented to keep it from fully discharging. Like my CRZ quits pulling juice when it gets down to 2 bars.

Yeah thats the problem. ALL other EV have safety measures to protect the car. The Tesla gives you warnings but only at 5%.

From full charge it takes 11 weeks to kill a Tesla. So if you park your car with a low charge your screwed. When Tesla first came out they didn't tell there customers this. They actually had a crew of people whose job was to covertly find your car in public and plug it in.

Watched an episode on Top Gear where they checked out the Teslas (2). Both died prematurely while on the track... probably jet lag, being shipped to the UK.

No sound definitely takes getting used to. So Toyota now is coming up with sonar-type sound makers for their Prius line... not for the drivers but for pedestrians to hear the oncoming car...

Everyone has to do their own calculations, but most Americans are terrible at math. That article talks about averages, but like they say "your mileage may vary". Unlike Oregon, California has high electric rates as well as gasoline prices. Residential rates go as high as $.27/kwh, more than double the US average. SCE has a website where you can calculate the cost for different situations and see if a separate meter may work. Also, Honda wont sell you a Fit EV, only lease, as GM did with the EV-1. Can you get the tax credit?

One thing you can get is the carpool lane sticker, as Hybrids no longer qualify. A Honda Civic NGV also gives you the sticker, half price fuel and a tax credit if you buy it. Short range is an issue with CNG as well as electric, but a fill up is about the same as with gasoline, just the public stations are few and concentrated only in big cities, just as public electric car recharge stations will be.

I think range exstended EV are a smarter investment (at least until the EV infastructure is better in the US). Honda really should think about working on one of those.
