Long trips in a Fit
Long trips in a Fit
When I buy a car I plan on that I can drive it anywhere, anytime, any distance without worrying. So I got my Fit on June 1st, 2012 and now with 3k on it. I am going to drive it tonight or tomorrow to Atlanta approximately 900 miles to see the aquarium. Never been there just saw a article figure pack up the three of us and go.
I searched and did not find a thread on trips in a Fit. So my question is the farthest you have driven in a single trip, number of occupants, and amount of items you packed for the trip?
(I not worry about driving in the Fit in 3 weeks to be exact two of us will take my lower 1995 Miata to the Dragons Tail for Miatas' at the Gap which is 800 miles.)

It's a brand new car, you'll be fine.
I drive SF>Reno>Las Vegas about twice a year which comes out to about 1500 miles round trip according to my trip meter. I just go with my wife and about 100 lbs of luggage (a weeks worth of clothes, personals), usually get about 38mpg at the end of the trip.
Haven't done any REALLY long distance driving, like cross country, but we are planning on road tripping out to NYC next year from SF, and we plan to take the Fit. I have no worries about it.

I finally got my wife to take less on trips a 100lbs of just her luggage would of been a light trip. When I go to the Dragons Tail me and a 9 year old take two gym bags.
Would like to see some of the longest trips in a Fit. I never worry about driving when it comes to a Toyota, Honda or Mazda.

Goobers did an 11k mi. road trip a while back. Here's his thread you might be interested in reading:

I love road trips. Here are my major trips from longest to shortest.
~2000-2100 miles. Chicago to Seattle. 2 people. 1 cat. 1 duffle bag of clothes. 2 luggage. cat carrier. I would say ~300lbs of cargo all together.
~1150 miles. 1 person. 1 luggage, and a backpack.
~1150 miles. (a repeat of the above)
~1100 miles. 3 people. 3 luggage and 3 backpacks.
~500 miles. 2 people. 2 luggage. 1 backpack.
~500 miles. 4 people. 4 backpacks.

This is what I was looking for trips that members have taken in their Fit. When reading through a lot of threads people mention their trips wanted to get a thread started on these.
The only way I can get my wife to travel light is to get in an argument the night before we leave and then convince her to go at the last minute so she just grabs items without thinking.

Same here took one the week after I got my Fit on a Sunday night starting at 8pm, 500 mile round trip to JFK to pick my wife up whose connecting flight got cancelled.
Last long trip I did with the Fit was up and down the west coast CA <-> WA, which was approx. 1.8k mi. A comfy driving position was not easy to find. Missed the armrest which I think the '12 now has. Driving through the mountains was not a big deal. Then again I wasn't asking much nor expecting much from the car. The car's load were 2 adults and about ~200# of stuff.
What also helped a bit was doing the gas pedal mod which most of us with a GD have done. Here's the thread: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...gas-pedal.html
The first few times driving the Fit, I couldn't really rest my rt. foot as much on the gas pedal and be comfy. So this simple mod helped.

My main concern. However, I can only remember one car over the past 20 years that was comfortable a 92 Grand Marquis. After that it seemed that car manufacturers do not pad seats for comfort.
Well that car was definitely designed for comfort. Won't be fair to compare. But on the Fit it wasn't as much the cushions being a show-stopper. The driving position at first felt a bit awkward. Now I have the hang of it but definitely not the most comfy for sure.
The GE is great for road trips. I just went to visit my grandparents in Colorado (3000 miles round) with my parents, little brother and dog without issue. For reference none of the three men in my family are under 6'1" and we were all pain free upon arrival after driving 18 hours straight through.
Yup! What he said.
Long trips. No decision. Take the Caravan. Got a wife? Lower the rear seats and she can put the kitchen sink in. I am embarrassed checking into hotel for a couple of nights and having to load luggage cart to the top.
I won't tell her but the ride sure is nicer. Long trips on Swifts in the Fit just don't cut it at my advanced age - 70.

Agree I like driving larger or a more comfortible vehicle on long trips. My wife has a 2012 Camry XLE she wanted to take on the trip rated 35 mpg highway. A couple of reasons I did not take it. One if I not willing to drive my Fit on this trip then I feel I should buy a car I am willing to drive a long distance. Second being her car if anything happen to it on the way down or here I would of have to listen about it on the way back. Compared to that the Fit's seats would feel like riding on a cloud.
