So in other words, do whatever you want, but (like with health insurance) if we deem it to be in any way, shape, form, or fashion related to your towing a trailer, we're not going to fix it. So if my tranny pukes at 59,999.99 miles and I've got a trailer hitch, I'm screwed for $4000 for a new tranny.

Were it I, I would remove the hitch before going in to the dealer with a tranny or engine issue. There's no magic box that records the fact that you have a trailer.

Additionally, while trailers can violate the warranty, reciever hitch mounted bike carriers do not. How do they prove that you had a trailer over a carrier?

They were like $9 a set at Northern Tool. Haven't seen them on their website, but they had them in their store.

Tractor Supply has them too, but like $15 - Carry-On Trailer Corner Rack Stake Pocket. - 0192564 | Tractor Supply Company

As for transmission issues... I don't know if I'd personally do the towing I'm doing with an automatic trans. Another reason I prefer the manual

First, thanks for that. Once I had the name of what those things were called I was about to find them (yay google). I had tried tractor supply before and they just looked at me funny when I brought a picture of those connectors in.

For me, I live less than 3 miles driving distance from Lowes across virtually flat terrain. I'm not too worried about overheating the transmission on that distance. Of course I'm also not going on interstates, big hills, or anything else. And if I need a really big order of stuff, its just as easy to get the store to deliver.

I'm actually planning on purchasing one of these trailers and towing it with my 2012 Fit Sport A/T. The way I see it, if it's just me in the car that leaves about 600lbs+ of spare GVWR weight capacity. So if I was pulling a trailer that weighed around 600lbs loaded I don't see the difference in that and having the car loaded down with 600lbs of people, other than the little bit of extra wind drag and rolling resistance from the trailer.

In Europe the Jazz with manual tranny, which has a smaller engine, but otherwise almost identical to our Fit is rated to tow 1,000lbs worth of trailer without trailer brakes and about 2,000lbs if the trailer has brakes. The auto version is rated just a couple hundred pounds less I believe. I wouldn't attempt to pull this kind of weight with my Fit, but I would imagine it should be able to handle a 600 - 700lb loaded trailer without too much trouble.

Yea, as I stated before... I've pulled my other 700lb+ motorcycle with a 350lb trailer as well. Car did fine, as did the brakes. Definately feel it back there, but it handled it about as well as my friends Toyota Tundra pulling a 12' enclosed motorcycle trailer

Exactly. As long as you follow safe towing practices and take it easy I don't see a problem. Like I mentioned, mine is an auto tranny, but I could always install a tranny cooler if I start to worry about heating up the transmission.

You can use an automatic transmission cooler that is larger than recommended to also bring down the coolant temperature by mounting it inline ahead of the radiator.
