How a Fit holds up in a wreck
Stumbled across this and looked at the pictures. Don't know the speed involved but a hard hit the doors still open.

Could have been interpreted either way......I did not read the article, just looked at the photo. On that note check out a fifth gear collision test they do with a late model volvo estate vs a newer compact euro car on youtube. Some comment that the volvo had it's engine removed making the impact softer for the compact. These cars are to an extent much safer than thier predecesors.

The curb weight stayed the same according to them. I wonder if it was something as simple as a few extra welds here and there.
Im liking what I saw for those crash reports. A harness bar would probably make that side impact one perfect, as its just "pelvic" that got an Acceptable rating

I was impressed by the video. I don't regard the Fit as being terribly crash-proof - it has a lot less steel wrapped around you than an E-class Merc for example - but that guy did go off the road, roll 7 times, and immediately get out of the car. There IS more damage than I'd like to see from a roll (that passenger cage is pretty altered) but it's a repeated roll so maybe we'll give it a break.
Beats my old CRV which had a great "feature" which was: If you got hit from the side, the side airbag would do a great job protecting your hips. Your head, however, would break through the driver's window and impact on the metal windowsill. This was considered "acceptable", although I had a different word to describe it.
The CRV was actually a great car, it was just dated and so was the safety gear.
