Clicking noise from gear shift lever

My center automatic 2009 Fit Sport lever makes a clicking sound. I just noticed it a few days ago. Doesn't seem like it makes a difference in the transmission but almost sounds as if the release button is not going back in place after I shift gears. It doesn't happen all the time. Should I be concerned? And while I'm asking, what is that little slot/door to the left of the knob?
Thanks in advance.

Still in warranty? Take it to your dealer sounds like you are thinking the release rod has popped out or something.

The little slot is to release the shift lever if the keys are not in it for some reason. Push down with a screwdriver or something to release it.
