Why have they not Totaled my Fit?
Why have they not Totaled my Fit?
I have a 2012 fit, that I hit a deer with a week ago...

Now the first estimate I got was

and after looking closer 2 days later the next estimate I got was

after my insurance adjuster came and inspected and told the repair shop, "ONLY OEM PARTS!!!!" i got this

(note I only screen shot the totals to protect the shop)
Now you may be asking, "Why the fuck would you want it totaled if the insurance is paying for the repairs?"
Well, as we all know, it just won't be the same, and the future value will be greatly reduced when I try to sell or trade it in. Also my insurance with allstate includes this little endorsement...

That being said, the fact that the repairs have basically exceeded the NYS 75% of actual cash value , the car should be listed as a total loss, and based on the endorsement, I should be getting enough to buy a new Fit. Thus not having to wait the MONTH it is going to take them to repair my car.
Advice?

Your loss does NOT fit the description of a total. Most companies total a car when the loss exceeds %70 to %75 of it's current value.
What it the current blue book on a 2012 FIT?
16,000?
$16,000 x 70% = $11,200
$16,000 x 75% = $12,000
One thing you do have going for you is that the damage is not that major . If this were totaled, the vehicle will bring a good dollar at the auction.
So let look at the economics of that.
On a tltal loss they pay you $16,000 (plus your states sales tax, minus your deductible) for your loss.
At auction they recover $6,000 (or more)
Their total out of pocket is $10,000
With those numbers a total loss is not out of the question.
You need to discuss it with your adjuster. You might be able to convince them to total it. Unfortunately you are dealing with an Insurance company with a very poor record on claims satisfaction. I have had several encounters with them over the years and they have not been very good. Also check out their ratings in Consumer reports.
If they do repair it, you will still have a clean title so you should not take much of a hit on resale value.

My daughter had the same problem she brought a 2013 Mazda3 earlier this year with a sticker price of $23k she got it for $18k. Was hit head on by a guy who decided not to wait making a left hand turn. Total damage was $12k. The insurance company would not total it out which did not make sense.
Yeah N9VC, the other problem I have is the car is just over a year old and has 30,000 miles, the Actual cash value is determined(so I have been told by the adjuster) by looking at the going rates for a similar model with similar milage...which is about 13000-14000 with that milage, trade in on that car is about 12000. It's a quandary
They Totaled it. That roof rack is up for grabs, as are the Clazzio Black PVC Seat covers. Not sure how to ship. The 480R Thule feet were damaged upon Removal, so let them of Cheap. I know the Aero Bars Go for $150, The Fit Kit is $85 and the 4 locks go for $60. Not sure about how damaged the Foot Packs are, I know 1 is fine... I honestly think they can Go back on No probs, and are only 6 months old, so I will Let them all Go for $250, which is less than the bars , locks and Fit Kit combined. The Clazzio Covers Cost me $270, so I will Let those go for $150, only 1 year old. Plus Shipping or local Pickup?
