Mice in the fit
Hey,
So I have found mouse droppings in my car and under the hood. I took out the cabin air filter and it had been partly chewed and there were mice droppings on it.
Has anyone else had this problem? The car is parked outside and used regularly. Any recommendations on getting rid of them before they do more damage?
I can't see a nest or anything when I look under the hood, so not sure where they are hiding!
Thanks

Sounds like some mice might be attracted by some spicy food.
It's kind of like the same with bear spray, some have been known to be attracted by its curious odor.
Good luck.

Dryer Sheets
Alledgedly, if you put a dryer sheet in front of the cabin filter, it will discourage the mice. Just make sure that it is a scent that you LIKE!!

rodent damage, new Fit
I bought a 2015 Fit 4 weeks ago. 3 weeks later, my engine light was on. I took it back to the dealer. The guy said rodents chewed up my wires. Cost $155. He said warranty does not cover rodent damage. I called my insurance company. They told me even though I have comprehensive coverage rodent damage is not covered because "it happens over time". I spent almost $100 on rodent repellent, mice traps, all kinds of sprays. A week later I opened the hood. I saw a ton of wires being chewed up. According to everything I have read so far, nothing - moth balls, peppermint oil, repellent, Bounce - can get rid of rodents. I paid almost $25,000 for my Fit, my entire savings. (I was stupid and got the extended warranty) At the rate my wires get chewed up, my car will be destroyed by rodents in the next few months if not weeks!
BTW, I have lived in my house for over 20 years and I have always had my car parked on my driveway and never had this problem before.

Many years ago, I was knocking on heaven's door with spinal meningitis I caught from cleaning out rodent droppings from under the hood of our '78 Cutlass wagon. They figured I nasal inhaled a virus. Let me advise you to wear a good mask and use nitrile gloves when dealing with this. Clean the interior thoroughly with Lysol. I don't have a solution for you other than poison bait until you get rid of the population. A pest control service may be able to help.
Edit: It isn't just a problem with the Fit.

toxic spray
Thanks for mentioning that. I tried a new repellent spray last night. I did not know I was squeezing the trigger as I was turning the tip to open it and I sprayed on myself. (It does says "all natural" on the bottle." And as I was putting traps under the hood, after I sprayed around the car, I guess I inhaled the repellent I just sprayed and my nasal passage felt bad all night. It is now morning, and I am still feeling it. Now I know to be more careful when I use it, i.e., I will not breathe. Funny how that stuff could almost kill a human but mice probably walk all over it in comfort!

I read online that car manufacturers are using biodegradable material in their wiring and that material attracts rodents. I called the America Honda hotline and the person confirmed that they do use soy based material in their new Fits and that stuff attracts rodents. I wish they had taken that into consideration!

Very interesting to know! Thanks!
Edit --> Apparently Honda sells anti-rodent tape to put around the wired because of this problem. Look at this link --> Biodegradable Wiring

I already tried that. I went to the dealer and they sell that, for over $50. I was willing to pay that I was not sure if it would help because when I looked under the hood, I saw a ton of wiring. Most of them in impossible to reach places. I figured there is no point using rodent tape to cover those few wires on top when mice can chew up the rest.
