driving in "D" vs "S"
driving in "D" vs "S"
Is there any milage advantage to drive a 2013 fit sport in "S" even if you never manually shift? Or, if one drives in "S" as apposed to "D" AND manually shifts, does that hurt the engine to shift to to fifth gear after getting to the speed limit even though that may be forty?
I've tried this before..
I can't remember, but with the shifters does the car leave it in the selected gear? Or does it change back like in D? I think if you 'forced' 5th gear and it used the lower rpm without staying the engine, you might get marginally better fuel economy than if you were in 4th gear. It ended up being too much shifting so I just use D and accelerate gently to conserve fuel.
I believe the op was asking if driving in the sport mode affects mileage. Yes it will. In sport mode the vehicle shift pattern changes to hold the gears longer before shifting. Also fifth gear is not used. These two facts along with the incentive to drive more aggressively, will result in lower fuel mileage. If using the paddles in sport mode the transmission will hold the selected gear until you manually shift.
