I know to little to make a good decission

I am completely new to the idea of a fit but I have been looking for a car for awhile and I am looking at a 2008 fit its I think the sport model it has the ground effect package. It actually looks great here is the issue. It is an automatic and it has 262,000 miles on it. They say it has been well maintained and it looks like it has. They want 3,400 for the car and I do want it but im like freaking out on the mileage. Can anyone give me a sense of what the real life of a fit is. I mean if I could get another 50k out of it it would be worth it I just have no idea. The car looks great it runs great and drives great ha ha I am a good garage mechanic so I am not afraid of a motor swap or heavy work. I just wanted to get an idea how you all felt with the price to mileage and if it has any life left in it.

That is a lot of miles. Are complete maintenance records available? Condition of tires? According to Kelly Blue Book the price is about right if it's as described.

Would I buy it? No, unless the price is $1000-$1500. If tires are worn out figure $500 for new tires. The car is well beyond the expected useful life of things like the engine and transmission.

You would be very lucky to get another 50k miles out it without major expense. Can you repair any problems yourself or would you rely on the dealer or other repair shops? If you have to pay someone else to fix it I would suggest you pass.

To me that is a $2000 car at most. I just bought a 2008 Sport Fit for $8500 with 34000 miles. The car I was driving prior to the Fit was a 1992 Volvo 240 station wagon. I sold it for $2800 with 234,000 miles. The only reason I got $2800 for it was because the 240 wagons are beginning to get a classic car following with hipsters and old yuppies. If I were you I would offer $1500 and see what happens. You should be able to find a 2008 Fit with less miles at a very reasonable price.
