Oil filter stuck on and SHREDDED - any suggestions?

Same here. I could do it cheaper at the dealer, since I use Amsoil's top oil formula, but years ago I had several bad experiences with others changing the oil I gave up and have done changes myself since, along with most other maintenance.

It's faster to do it at home. I can change the oil faster than just the drive to a dealer. My mechanic is five blocks away and I can change the oil faster than the time to drive there and walk home, let alone the time to set up an appointment, drive there, walk home, walk back, pay and drive home again.
Plus I know what oil and filter I'm using and that I probably won't screw it up.
The only drawback of doing it myself is if it's wintertime when it's time to change the oil, and I have to wait for a dry, not-too-windy day.

It's probably a goofy wasted effort, but I let my oil drain for several hours while I do other things. It's just droplets, but the total quantity is perhaps several cups.
I was once at a Nissan dealership and the Service Manager was loudly chewing out the oil change guy for letting one car drain while the next car was positioned on a second lift and its drain started. I felt badly for the oil change guy because he was a quiet man who deserved better respect and was just trying to do a thorough job.
