aftermarket stuff ain't no ordinary line of work for a regular mechanic or bodyshop.

i've had countless encounters where customers tell me "yeah i'm a mechanic" or "my buddy's a mechanic" or "i brought the HID kit to a mechanic". But in the end the "mechanic" wasn't able to install the kit properly and BLAME the kit as defective.

Moral of story, bring your car to ppl who knows their sh** OR get the parts painted and you spend the time and effort yourself to install it.
