Can my Fit hike up Haleakala every day?
Hello everyone,
I am considering moving to Maui from the mainland for a job opportunity that would require me to commute up Haleakala every day. I plan on staying only one year, though it's possible I could extend that to three. I'm also coming from the East coast, and seeing as I'd have to drive to CA, spend $1000+ to ship it, then spend the same amount on the return trip someday, it probably makes a lot more sense just to buy a used car on the island.
But I adore my 09 Fit, I've just paid it off, and I want to at least entertain the idea of bringing it with me.
I've been to Maui before, but didn't have time to make it up Haleakala, so I have no idea what the 'feel' of the steepness of the road is. Would it be okay for my little Honda Fit to chug up and down it every day, or would that leave excessive wear and tear on the car? I've lived on the Big Island before and it seemed hard enough for my big Dodge Ram to make it up Mauna Kea....how does the road up Haleakala compare?
Thanks!

haleakala isnt as bad as mauna kea but i think youd have to leave it in a lower gear and make it scream up that mountain haha.. the steepest i took mine up was sierra drive and it wasnt terrible, just real long and gradual
