Dealership horror story (century honda cincy, oh)
Dealership horror story (century honda cincy, oh)
Ok as the title states I had a little bit of a horror experience to pass on to my fellow fit fans.
Last week my fit just turned 5k so I get an appointment scheduled to take the fit in for the free oil change, a rattle noise in the dash over bumps, passenger seat pocket torn at the seam.
So, the lady there calls me up over the phone and says that they have to order my seat cover for the passenger seat (no big deal, it'll be at the dealer for a few days anyway) and she also tells me that my tires are at 7/32" in the front and 9/32" in the rear and asked me if i would like a tire rotation for $20? I declined as I had just rotated the tires around 2500 miles and knew something was off.
She calls a day later and my car is done. I go and pick it up and check things over. My seat they fixed but the rattle noise in the dash was not. Line on the repair order states if rattle continues reccomend having the customer ride with the technician.
Well as soon as i leave the dealership the noise is still there. Ok i'll have to reschedule and have a tech ride with me, no biggie. I checked the Sheet when I get home and find that the miles out was the same as the miles in. Meaning when i brought the car in it had 5028 miles, when I got in it to go home it had 5028 miles. Meaning they didnt even drive the car to check for the rattle noise in the dash.
Now onto today, I bring the car into my shop and perform a tire rotation. I check the tread depths and find that they are all at 9/32". BIG difference then what she told me on the phone.
I'm not very happy about this, but oh well, there are more dealerships in the city that I will just have to try out. Would just reccomend paying attention when taking it in to be looked at.

Exactly why I do all my own work for all the normal stuff. Can't trust car shops or dealership shops. Most are overpriced and incompetent.
Back when I had my Integra I had my lifters adjusted (something I couldn't do myself). Well I'm on my way home and my car dies. Look under the hood and they didn't tighten my belt nut and my belt came off. Luckily I was on a back street only going 25 mph. Who knows what would have happened if I was on the freeway. I called the dealership raised heck they towed me back to the dealership and fixed it. Ever since then I never go to the dealerships anymore. If I can do it...I rather do it myself than risk the damage/hassle of taking it to them.

I'm a certified mercedes benz technician and figured for the free oil change why not do it. Plus at 10k im converting over to amsoil so no real need to go to the dealership other than things that are covered under warranty.
I am glad I pay attention to things, otherwise I would have never noticed the mistakes made.

I'm still debating whether or not to bring my car in for the first oil change. I literally work up the street at an Audi dealer - but I have this phobia of something going horribly wrong. Plus, I'd like to use synthetic - and get bulk Mobil 1 5w40 at $3.99 qt. at work.
Check into a Pella oil extractor and DIY, and save yourself all the dealership hassles. Amazon sells Shell full synthetic for approx. $5/quart, free shipping. They also have Wix and Mann oil filters cheaper than the local parts store.
