Like another poster said earlier, I con't know how I missed this thread. i have three bikes; plus a project bike. I have a 2001 Rans V-Rex recumbent which I bought off of Ebay a couple of years ago; I spent the first month or so falling over a lot, but once I got the hang of it, I found that I love it; it's not bad at pulling hills and it's FAST on the flat and downhills. I have an old Raleigh DL 1 Roadster that I ride to work; it just looks good when I'm wearing a sport coat and tie, and a Giant Cypress which I ride when I am going out casually with my kids and friends. I also have a Motobecane Grand Jubilee, a 1970s vintage French 10 speed that I put a lotta miles on, wore out, and want to get back on the road...

 

i'm not that into cycling, but my family has a couple of mountain bikes
and some of these bikes are just woww! i can see why it's such a popular hobby..
kinda like driving and modding FITs :')

wow I didn't know these many Fit owners rode bikes!! I have a Gravity fixed gear and a GT hardtail mountain

i found my home! i havent read the whole thread, but i will go back now and check it out.

i sold my hondas after i got into cycling, but now im back in one. the day after i bought my car, the ladyfriend and i went up to a race in poughkeepsie ny, about 2 hours and 30 minutes away, without my roof rack. i was worried i wouldnt be able to fit my bikes inside. WRONG:

here is two bikes, a 29er and a 26 inch bike and all the race essentials in the back seats no problemo!


i ride a cannondale SS 29er.

anyone else in NJ that rides? i have a CX bike i use for road duty as well.

 

How's a 29er pearl? Always wanted to ride one to get the feel, but I only ride standard 26".

 

the 29er thing has taken off in the northeast. it's just about what everyone rides out here.

I'm 5'10 and have been riding 29ers exclusively for almost 2 years. i've seen people 5'3 ride a 29er and love it. i jumped in coming from a hardtail 26 inch singlespeed and haven't looked back since. for the type of riding i do, it is the perfect tool. don't want to spark up a 26 vs 29 debate, but the benefits of a 29 inch wheel (to me) outweigh the negatives. i dont know if ill ever buy another 26 inch hardtail again. i do, however, always itch to bomb tech downhills on a FS 26

 

Go ahead. The ONLY reason 26" became the standard is because many years ago it had the most wheel tire options available.

10(ish) years ago, someone finally thought to put that to rest.

I've been on 29er exclusively for about 6 years now, and won't ever go back.

 

there is for sure a spot for 26 inch wheels, but out here in NJ, 29ers rule. hell, 29er singlespeeds rule. we just dont have enough long sustained climbs out here to make 26 inch wheels (for me) better. you guys out west judge climbs by hours. we have a climb on part of the race last weekend that was 400 feet. that was HUGE compared to other climbs in the tri-state area

I'm still riding my 2000 Canondale Jekyll 900SX. Here's a Photo from back about 8 or 9 years ago at the top of Mt. Killington in VT. (GREAT downhill riding). It has Fox Float RL with the remote Lockout on the handlebar for the Rear shock and the Canondale Lefty for the front. Lightweight and rides like a dream. No one who checked out the bike thought that a Lefty would survive the downhills of Killington but it was a pleasure to ride.

Did my first 6 hour race this weekend up at Stewart State Forest in Rock Tavern, NY. Finished 10th in the open singlespeed class. 6 Laps in 6:47, 65 miles of some of the sweetest singletrack in the tri-state area.

Arrrghhhh the Scalpel. I checked them out but wanted something with a little more travel in the rear. If you don't have one, get the remote lockout kit for the handlebars which allows you to lock the rear shock from a lever mounted next to the shifter. best thing I ever did on my Jekyll.

solbrothers, are you on the bikeforums site? I see you have the mandatory Kilo tt for ss/fg forum entry! lol. I thought I remember a pic with a dude from MASH... and thought the screen name sounded familiar, I lurk both sites here and there but never really post. Here is my "for now" ss/fg Frankenbike until bikes direct gets some frames in my size.
