HELP! 89 civic door locks and horn going crazy

I put the key in and turn on the ignition and my horn and door locks go ape
on me. I had to pull the fuses so they would stop. I hear a clicking still
under the dash. The remote pad does nothing, and ive even left in inside
my apt to see if the remote was the problem, but no.
Please help!
Thank You

Re: HELP! 98 civic door locks and horn going crazy

Update:
I took out the relay under the dash (small black relay switch that makes
the clicking) and the locks and horn still constantly lock/unlock, and
honks. when the doors are open, non of this happens.
Does anyone know how to disable whatever is causeing this to happen?

Re: HELP! 98 civic door locks and horn going crazy

I've never had a problem like that, but looking at the schematic it
seems that the only thing both the locking system and the horn have in
common is what they refer to as the "keyless receiver unit". On the
schematic, there's also a "security control unit" described as an
option. It seems to be hooked into this receiver.
I'd imagine that both these modules are some sort of embedded
microcontroller, running some sort of program. It being a controller,
maybe it got locked up somehow - stuck in some sort of loop.

I wonder what would happen if you unpowered/repowered it by temporarily
unplugging the cruise control fuse. After you unplug this fuse, I
suspect that the clicking at least will stop. (If it doesn't, there
must be another component that has both horn and door control in
common) If you replug it and it is still gone, that remote receiver
must have 'stepped in the weeds', as that is the technical term used
when referring to misbehaving programs. :)
If you replug it and it still misbehaves, it could be that this
receiver or security module is bad.

Hope that helps - maybe others here have seen it and have a clue as to
what's going on.

Re: HELP! 98 civic door locks and horn going crazy

I unplugged the cruise control fuse and the clicking didnt stop. I then
unplugged the battery and bingo!
The clicking stopped and I was able to put the horn back on and put the
fus back in for the doors.
Now my keyless pad is not unlocking the doors. (which is a huge
improvement still)
so is it possible the keypad died (replaced battery already) or maybe is
it the keyless rec unit?

THANK YOU !!!! :)

Re: HELP! 98 civic door locks and horn going crazy

You're welcome - that controller must have locked up somehow and
unplugging the battery reset it. On my schematic that unit appears to
be hooked up to the cruise control fuse, but you got the gist of what
needed to be done.

I take it you only have one keyless fob or are they both doing the same
thing? If you only have one, my bet is on the fob since that sees the
most handling. You could replace the battery one more and see if that
helps.
Not sure how comfortable you are around electronics, but you could open
the unit and inspect it for dry solder joints, cracked board or loose
connections.

Glad at least the car behaves normal again.
