I like the styling hues from the UK version, but the JDM is just plain better.

totally agreed.

from a mechanical stand point, yeah the jdm type r is 'better' but the edm type r eats it up for style in every way, shape and form. the 'go-fast' looks tacked on for the jdm type r.

i'm actually suprised we have more pro-jdm type r guys...especially since the uk type r is built on a modified version of our little fit's chassis...you guys should be representing more! there are plenty of 'jdm only' whores out there for the jdm version.

actually, if we were to have this car in the us it would be great. (the edm type r that is.) it weighs signifcantly less than our si, has MUCH bigger brakes, loads of style, make the two tier dash seem ten times cooler than it is, and while the k20 in it only makes 1 more hp and 3lbs-ft of tq more than the z3, it makes them much earlier in the rev range.

this would be a killer car to have.

UK type r is shocking. Problem came about when EP3 type r came out, people over here just buy the top model to look good not for the car itself and honda got loads of complaints about the seats being uncomfy and the ride too harsh. Sadly honda UK don't care what the type r is about and made the new one to satisfy housewives and old people with nothing better to spend their money on. The best type r's over here were the old DC2 ITR's (I miss her so much, sob!) and the quality Accord Type R's which sadly weren't catered for on the tuning market!

i really don't think they softned it up though, as most reviewers still call it the 'track or racecar' of all the hot hatches you have over there.

but you are right, you can get type r looking style with a civic s, as they share the same hatch design. but one look at the wheels, extra spoiler and interior and you know what the type r is all about. i don't blame them for making it nicer....the focus st and golf and all the other luxo hot hatches you guys have over there are tough competition!

at any rate, your type r is still lighter, has more power, bigger wheels and brakes, and looks infinitely cooler than our usdm si. (and it looks better than the jdm type r as well.)

ha ha! the funny thing is, the usdm civic si is actually the lightest out of all the current sport compacts out there. (se-r, gti, mazdaspeed 3, cobalt ss, corolla/matrix xrs.)

but the main difference between those and the si is that they either rely on forced induction, or engine size to make power.

i know honda hates turbos...and thats fine! but we need more than just a naturally aspirated 2.0. 0-60 times mean nothing in the real world where torque is important.

they need to up the size to like a 2.3 or something, make it around 210 hp, rev to about 7500 rpms and have like 190 lbs of torque like the old sir accords in europe. or even an n/a k23 would be great, if the could up the torque!

haha, sound funny huh?

if i'm not mistaken though, the edm civic type r is priced significantly lower than either the golf gti or the focus st.

dunno if that makes it a bargain or the other two horrendously expensive.
