Honda Fit verses Scion xD
there you go :)
good luck to you!
O.K. kids, you know everything, you can read a brochure, did you get the decimal points on the hp also?
And 20 hp, is 18.34% of the fits 109 Hp. or 18.18% of 110 if you round up, ever heard of a calculator? you were a bit off bud. Welcome to anal-ville, I can do it too. 18.34% of 300 hp is 55.02 hp, you want to say that wont make a difference? regardless of whether the car weighs 1 ton, or 4? If you cant feel even 30 hp, why do people do headers, programmers, intakes, and exhaust systems on full size pickups if they wont even feel a difference?
No the tercel has nothing to do with an xD or Fit, but someone was making fun of toyota, and supporting Honda. I was responding to it.
I am not saying that those are the only reasons, but with advertising and car shows, there is a thing called community; sometimes appreciation and nice people mean more than an "H" emblem.
Sorry Fitter, Happier for letting this get so far off-topic. Again, hopefully you can choose the vehicle that works best for you, and regardless of what you pick, let us know.

But it looks like we've finally settled down on that the only valid point you had was that the xD has more HP than the Fit; which I agreed to in the beginning. Is 20 flywheel HP all that noticable? That's for the OP to decide. If we want to get real technical we could point out that the xD has 200 pounds on top of the Fit that that extra 20hp has to pull. Edmunds only had the Fit at half a second slower 0-60 than the xD and they couldn't even launch it good. Many others have gotten the 5MT Fit in the high 8s to the xD's 8.4.
If you think Honda forums are so bad and full of assholes why are you even here?
I also own both, Fit and xD both great quality little cars forsure. test drive them both, see which one suits you best.

huh? the xb has already been redesigned and its succesor is a totally different car, unlike the new fit, which will keep the same formula. had it been such a decent car, i doubt toyota would have totally changed the approach to this car here in the states.

I only fit in the Fit because we OWN one and I have to. if my girlfirend had bought an xD, I would make myself fit in that also.
The fit went in because of a Power steering failure at 12,000 miles. And evidently he local Honda techs arent smart enough to listen when I tell them what happened, it took them 3 tries, to fix it.
As far as the tercel comments go, if you would have read the whole topic, you would know. I guess I should be a search nazi like everyone else so I can fit in a little better.
20 hp isnt much? with a car that only has 100 hp, that is .20 of total horsepower. If you have a vehicle that has 300 factory horsepower, that is an increase of 60 hp, when you put things in perspective stuff starts to make a difference.
Look around and see how many scions are out there, compared to econo hondas. I think they can sell their cars without doing this, and they can still do it for cheaper.
It is a great reason to pick one car over another, it shows customer appreciation, if I am spending $15,000 (or $17,000 in hondas case) it is nice to get more than a monthly payment book from your dealer.
This site can be informative. but with people like you just looking for a way to bash people, it goes to shit very quickly. Out of your entire 7 paragraph post, you had 1 informative thing to say, and the rest was just to run your mouth.

my fit had the steering issue too, but it has not yet reared its ugly head again. that doesnt' make me question honda as a company though, every car has issues, and again, if you think no one with an xd will have ANY issues, you are mistaken.
and please, at least admit that every website is biased towards the car its about. if you do gon on scionlife so often, you can very easily attest to the bashing of, well,....everything that gets compared to a scion. go look at the rabbit versus fit thread...there is a total lack of bashing. not all us honda heads are the same man.
and the reason you see less 'econo' hondas is because there are less of them in existence....scion is not considered a premium brand, but an economy brand with a lot of standard features. kinda unfair to compare sales of 3 different cars from one brand to 1 car from honda don't you think?
Like I said before, you guys know everything, and I know nothing.
True that my friend.
If you are a driving enthusiasts and looking for more of a drivers car, its the Fit.

for all your hp arguments, all the scions hp only made a 0.6 difference during edmunds test. the new fit will have almost as much hp, with only a few more pounds to lug around. to top it off, the fit did better in virtually every other performance test than the xd: it out slalomed it, and even with smaller tires OUT-GRIPPED the xd. the fit is def the car to have if you value driving enjoyment.

The power steering thing isnt only with the Fits either, Elements have a HUGE problem with this issue. Honda also cant manage to properly put windshields in Elements either. My girlfirend works at a glass shop, and every Element our dealership gets in, has to have a new windshield put in. Not because of damage or anything else, but because of an improperly installed/sealed piece of glass. It seems like Hondas build quality is going down, and they arent investing enough in R&D. I am not saying Hondas are not good cars, I never did say that. They are great cars, but they used to be better. That is why I am looking into a mid-90's Civic hatch; and in my opinion, it will probably hold up better than any car that honda can turn out now.
i know that every website has a bias, but like I said before, a thread like this is 100% useless if everyone states their bias and bashes the other make of vehicle. That is fine in the picture thread, or anywhere else, but when someone is asking for a good comparison, it doesnt work. that is why outside agencies, such as Car & Driver/Edmunds/Road & Track, plus others are so popular. It gives an opinion on vehicles, in a comparison sense, with no bias. That way people arent persuaded to buy something that isnt right for them. the bias within this post is just like visiting a Honda dealership, I bet if you believe them you wont leave and buy a Toyota.
I am not comparing sales of three scion models to the Fit. I wouldnt ever compare the tC to a Fit, that would be idiotic. I am comparing the xB to the Fit, or the xA/xD to the Fit. One of the big deciding factors that makes me lean towards Scion, is the lower prices. Toyota built a spin-off company so they can put out great built economy cars, but with a cheaper price tag. We bought the Fit for $16,565, and xA's are selling for around $14,000. Also, you say that Scion isnt a premium brand, like they are the store brand at Wal-Mart, sitting next to the Tide laundry detergent. They are an up and coming brand that has only been around for a few years now, and are doing quite well. Just because Honda has had a longer run at it, doesnt mean that they are any better or worst. if scion really doesnt know anything, then why did Honda take their idea of offering a car that comes with standard features without opting for them? Now I am not a honda salesman, so I dont know, so correct me if I am wrong, but the fit is the only vehicle that is that way?
Again, I am done.
now now, i never insinuated that, and i agree, they should have just built or slightly improved its shortcomings.
The only reason Honda is upping the horsepower is so they can compete. So after they fix the shortcoming, yeah, it will be fair.

i know of the power steering issues with elements, but not of the glass ones. you figure even if your girlfriend saw 10 elements with crappy glass, she is still only seeing a very small portion of the amount of elements out there. for all we know, the glass could have been replaced prior to that. if its so bad, most folks would take it to the dealer to have it fixed, since it came that way, because they would get it done for free, and i doubt your girlfriends place is charging them nothing.
i agree that a thread can be useless if everyone just states his/her bias, but i've tried to state fact: i personally don't like the way the xd looks and i know which car is the superior one from a performance stand point...and i just don't like it when people bring up issues with a car like if thats the end all opinion and that should be the reason to sway the said poster over to the car of that posters choice. the xd hasn't been around long enough for us to really gauge reliability.
the build quality of hondas is not that crappy either. they aren't the ones going down in the automotive world as the 'quality company' that has taken a GM approach to building cars...that title goes to Mr.Toyota. The new camry has had a ton of issues and the new matrix and corolla are a showcase of cheap and chintzy (albeit nice LOOKING) on the inside. The yaris is a joke, and scion is no better quality wise than the fit.
as far as honda not jumping on the 'affordable small car' bandwagon or offering nice features standard, they have been. They took a small hiatus since the late 90's as far as small cheap civic hatches go, and while they have moved upmarket, you can still thank the 06 civic for making an aux jack standard fare in the c class segment of cars.
and no, i'm not saying scion is a crappy brand, but premium they are not...you said it yourself when you pointed out how much more your fit was.
and there is a reason xa's are that cheap (or were anyway). The interior is nothing to scream about (except maybe in a bad way.;) j/k its not too bad.) and the cars dynamics and interior space are subpar.not to mentiond that the hatch is TINY and practically useless. The 2 door t/c has more space in the back!
most folks don't mind paying more when their car rewards them in the drivers seat. (ha ha insert the 'the fit is uncomfortable and has no armrest or height adjuster!" rants here.)
And ill say it again, both the xD and Fit are GREAT in their own right. Both similar yet very diffrent driving characteristics. if you are having a hard time choosing, go to Honda and Scion, test drive them both, check out features price and factor in everything you like/dislike and pick the car thats best for you. If you like to drive hard im sure you will pick the Fit. My mom is far from a "driving enthusiasts" like i am, she is more of a "A to B" driver and the xD sure is great for that!

I looked at the following cars prior to purchase:
Honda Fit
Scion xD
Toyota Yaris
Toyota Yaris was on my Do not buy list before ever going past a brief look.
Then I looked at the Honda Fit and really liked how large the inside was as well as how the seats worked and the 5speed Auto.
The Xd was a really nice car too. I liked how the rear seats moved forward (something the Fit's didnt do). The xD seemed more powerful also. I liked the MPG indicator on the dash. BUT I couldn't forget the looks and color of the fit. I like bright colors and the xD didnt really have anything I liked. Would have to "settle". I like the shifter on the fit better also. The xD had to be pushed left and right as well as up and down.
To answer which is better? I think they are both very nice cars and I was considering EACH of them. For me, I liked the exterior look for the Fit better. The xD might have been a hair nicer on the inside.
SO -- Get which ever one you are more drawn too. I love my fit!
Hope that helps

For some reason xD just doesn't feel as sporty sitting inside of it. It sits very high up like the first generation xB. Feels more like a mini SUV than a small hatch. The car feels a big cheaper in terms of fit and finish than the Fit. I'm personally waiting to see if the new Fit coming out in the fall is any better than the current Fit.
I'm still trying to figure out why Edmunds picked the xD over the Fit. They said the Fit was better in everything (handling, fun, comfort, gas mileage, price, etc) except for acceleration and yet they said they would go with the xD
It's obviously up to you. The Edmunds comparison is the only comparison with the Fit that I have seen that the Fit didn't get first in (again, I don't understand how why they chose the xD did better than the Fit in was acceleration).
They are both great cars and the engines will outlast the universe, but if I was to choose, I would go with the Fit without a doubt (No, I don't currently own one).

For the Scion thing, I'm still waiting for them to acknowledge the problem on the Tc with the freaking sunroof whistle. I'm sorry, I know many drivers who have complained about this, not everyone has this problem but I know of a significant amount of people who do. They won't acknowledge this problem and hope that people just deal with it, but it's annoying as hell sitting in my GF's Tc with that damn sunroof whistle.

They didn't, however, pick the xD on acceleration alone. They also mentioned that it comes with more standard features while still being cheaper. They called it a better overall value.
That said, I am still leaning toward the Fit. The 2009 is also in contention but I kinda like the current styling better.
But that's exactly how Toyota intended it. That's what Scion is about.
Just look at the 1st gen xB. They didn't design that with everyone in mind. Scion is a very small niche brand on purpose.
For me, I really like the xD's styling. One of the best looking small cars available and in many ways the design works more than the Fit's.
