Hesitation..WHY? clutch? tranny?

Heres a quick question :
If your driving a manual car and you shift to lets say second...the rpm guage runs up to lets say 4000rpms but then theres hesistation , the engine revs and comes back about 3000 before the car kicks in, What is that? Could that be the clutch? Tranny? The car doesnt have any problems with shifting into gears or anthing but when it you push the pedal the rpms run up first then come down before it really moves.....

by the way the car is a civic 06 or 07 not sure.... My friend (rsx type s or civic si post) ......he test drove one and said it was having this situation.

Can anyone enlighten??

yeah sounds like a slipping clutch to me. is the clutch pretty old, or does the owner regularly ride the clutch? i doubt it would be covered under warranty because it's just a normal wear and tear item. unless it's brand new and already acting up.

Let your foot off the throttle before you shift. It sounds like you're still giving it gas before you upshift. Gotta let off some to let the engine RPM drop.

Hey---This is Espo79's friend Ant- the one who drove the car-- I tried that too but when I was just crusing and stepped on the gas a little the rpms ran up and down before it caught so I figured its not just when I shift...

yeah sounds like the clutch to me...ive been driving on a bad clutch for over 6k miles, you should have some time to get it fixed if you cant do it immediatly. if you can get it done right away do it, but i wouldnt rush and screw up your bills if you need to wait a bit. def get it fixed soon tho. goodluck.
