Re: 99Honda CRV overheating

You have already received some good advice, but here a few thoughts to
consider. Are you sure you're really overheating? Could your temp guage
or sending unit have a problem and be giving you a bad reading?
How high is the ouside temp when this is occuring and did it start all of
a sudden, or did it start over heating a little and get worse? Has anyone
ever heard of a Honda water pump impeller slipping on the shaft?
Mazda's have this problem, sometimes. Good luck.
Yes, it is overheating...about 1.5 yrs ago, I hit a deer, and on all Hondas when you hit the front, it pushes in the front end. According to Honda, it was a textbook hit. Soon after they fixed it (everything was workingat the time), my air stopped working. They unplugged something and told us we would have air, just not that strong. It did work that summer but we noticed that the engine was running a little hotter than it should (gage not in the middle). This spring, when I went to turn on the air, nothing....and the temp started getting warmer and warmer. The temp outside has been in the 80-90's this whole time and we have to run the heater to keep the car from getting too hot (all the way to the top). Now that we found the problem to our A/C and we have cold air again, but only when we are at a stop or going 30mph...any faster, it starts getting warmer again and of course, we start to overheat. It is very frustrating as everything should be brand new and in working order...and because it is 1.5 yrs later, its hard to prove they did not do their job right (Honda)

Thats why all the advice has been quite helpful in giving us a starting point to work from. It could very well be the radiator as they did not have to replace the thermostat at the time, but the raditator they did.

Thank you for all your help...we will start working on all the suggestions.
