97 Acura CL 2.2. Power windows won't go up

--

Hello All,

I own a 1997 Acura CL 2.2. It has power windows and yesterday I pushed
the button to roll the window up and nothing happened. All you
can hear is the sound of the motor and some krinkling noise.

Is there anyway I can get the window up manually for the time being?

Also, what might be wrong with it and how much will it probably cost to
fix?

Your subject line says: WINDOWS WON'T GO UP . . Did you mean they are
_all_ dead? Did you try pulling up on the glass while clicking the
switch? Which window is doing it?

My 97 accord power windows were binding when going up and down -
sprayed some silicone in the tracks on the sides - up and down no
problem now. You may have burned out the motor - try squirting some
silicone on the side tracks with the window down, help it up manually.
If no soap - you may have to replace the motor unit - tight places
requiring small hands.

That reminds me about something I forgot to mention. Don't grab the
window with pliers. It could explode and then you'll really be spending
some bucks.:-(

It sounds like your window regulator may be damaged. This had recently
happened on my sister's 99 Elantra. The crinkling noise that you are
hearing is the metal wire wrapping itself around the piece which
interfaces with the motor. She had the same sound coming from her
window when trying to move it up and down. It turned out that one of
the two pulleys snapped off. I'm not sure how much it cost to have it
replaced by someone else (as it requires dismantling the door trim)
but the part isn't too expensive. This repair isn't too difficult to
do, just time consuming. I'd get a Haynes manual to help you out if
you get stuck.
