Should I buy: 5spd 84 5.0 mustang?

My girlfriend's dad is willing to sell me his old 5.0 for $500. The transmission AND engine are in good shape.

I've driven slow cars all my life, I'm thinking if I get this one I'm going to pull out everything but the power steering(carpet, radio, dash, seats, insulation, A/C, everything) and throw on a 150 shot of nitrous.

What do you guys think? Would you do it?

i would say go for it, the price is right....

but 80's mustangs are redneck mobiles if there ever was one. i don't care how fast they are.

lol, yeah, I agree about the redneckmobile. I think it'll be fun. I doubt a rebuild will cost too much either once I blow out this engine.

it's a manual, also. I think I'm just going to buy one of those $400 no-name nitrous kits and run a 100 shot, hopefully be able to finally know what driving a 12-13 is like!

yeah I think one day I'll end up buying a boss302 347 engine kit.

gonna save up until then, just strip the stang down to metal and track it.

I think I decided my fit is peppy enough with i/h/e. I'll spend my $3000 on an engine with 450hp :-D

yep. its useless to try to make a "fast" fit. the fit is a great DD and people/cargo hauler. it wasnt made to run 10's in the quarter mile, where, a mustang excels at that.

do it, blow it up, and part it out. Will make 5x what you paid for it.

If you're looking for a fast mustang, the 5.0 is not it. 225hp out of a V8 is pretty unimpressive, although the 300ish torque is pretty nice. Just don't expect to be in the 12-13 seconds. However I've always had a soft spot for the early 90s 5.0 Mustangs with the cheese grater tail lights.
