Car noob got a question!

I have a base 08 fit. Want to get bigger tires. What's the biggest size it can accommodate without doing any other mods to accommodate bigger?

What's the deal with ppl saying they can't carry too much weight? Do I need to install something else to make it able to carry more weight?

Thanks guys

do you want to put larger tires on your stock wheels, or do you want to put on new wheels? tires with a larger diameter than 14 inches won't fit on your stock wheels. you could probably go a lil bit wider than your stock tires, but i wouldn't recommend it. if you were looking to upgrade your wheels, you can go 15, 16, 17, or even 18 inches in diameter. but you might experience rubbing issues with 17 inch wheels, and almost certainly with 18 inch wheels. if you go for 17s or 18s, make sure your offset is 45 or higher, or you'll definitely rub.

Well..new tires so I can get new wheels too. Was considering 17" but has rubbing issues? What can I do to avoid rubbing? Besides going to 16"

As long as the outside diameter of the tires (and the width) is the same you will not have any problems. If you go to a larger diameter then the speedometer will not be correct.
If you go to a larger rim (18") then the sidewall height will be small and you may have a harsher ride due to less flex in the sidewall.
Any good tire store can help you with this.

You can easily put either 205/40x17 or 205/45x16 tires on appropriate size wheels with 42 to 46 mm offset. Both are close to the diameter of the 195/55x15 tires but once you use those wheels the tires move 11 to 13 mm closer to the fender arch (still no rubbing) and that appears to make the fender-tire gap to be reduced. The best choice for performance is probably the 205/45x16's as the diameter is .2" shorter than the stock 195/55x15's which makes up for the potentially slightly heavier 16" tire. None of those change odo or speedo readings enough to notice.
The lighter the wheels and especially tires, the better performance and mpg.

As far as the load carrying weight question the Fit has very soft rear springs which will bottom out easily under a couple of heavy people, much less heavy luggage. The solution is to replace the stock rear shocks with Monroe MA811's per many posts in the supension and brakes section. Good photos too.
Good Luck.
