Thanks, if it wasn't for the rust holes we would probably keep it. It has been a good little car.

Is it true that old cars in Japan cost quiet a lot to keep rolling with them (and that would be why jdm imports in Canada or UK are so cheap)? Or it's not true?

But still, jdm cars are really cheap and usually in good condition.
I'm really frustrated right now because there is a Honda beat for sale for 4.5k in my area (Quebec, and we cannot get any more jdm since last year so beat are really rare and will remain rare), with 115k km, tried it, it's the funniest car i've tried so far (after the echo hb and s2000 would come). But I have a civic 4wd and an MR2 turbo (jdm), so no need for a new car (and my mr2 is not in great body shape, so not worth selling).

The biggest reason that older Japanese cars can be had for cheap is because of "shaken". It is like a very thorough smog/service check that costs a minimum of about $500 and can go much higher depending on what needs to be done. In this case, many people decide to just purchase a new or newer car.

The Beat was made in pretty limited numbers so it is even pretty expensive over here. I considered getting one when I was looking for a new car, but I felt they are too expensive for that old of a car. Ended up with a Miata instead. The advantage for kei cars (generally cars with 660cc or less) is that they cost much less to maintain and pass shaken.
