Project: ThunderChicken

Buddy of mine picked up a 79 Trans Am that used to be a Radial Tire Drag car.

Originally an all motor Big Block Chevy 454" puttin it down through a TH350 trans and a Strange 9" rear on 28" DOT Radials.

New setup is a total budget build... what we dropped in yesterday is a High Comp 350 Small Block, unknown cam, Holley 4 barrel adapted to a spread-bore Q-Jet intake with a Single Plate jetted for 150 shot of spray. Switched the TH350 to a TH400 transmission and a 4.10 rear gear with 26" ET Street Radials.

Lookin for 11s on spray! Trying to talk him into a second hand 80mm T6 turbo I have at my disposal, bigger cam a loose converter.. and just using the spray to get up on the converter and go for 9's @ 145mph+ because it already has a cage.

The 350SBC looks absolutely tiny down in there compared to the 454 or even the 6.6 that came from the factory!

Is that the one that came with a 6.1L (or was is a 6.9L) from the factory? Or was that the Camaro?

I almost bought one when I was 18.... thank god I didn't. :D

This was the Pontiac (403") 6.6 with all the bells and whistles originally. The 1980 Camaro is basically the same car though and if you look on the cradle there's a bunch of bolt patterns for all the different mounts.

Thanks for the clarification... 6.6L it was.. and a 79.

My uncle had a late 70's Camaro modded with the exhaust running along the sides of the car, quite a few family members burned their legs getting out of the car... memories.. lol Those cars were all over the place back then.
