WTF is up with all the ricers!!
#263
I do wonder if I'm considered a ricer by some w/ gold "racing" wheels and minimal performance work. I have tried very hard to buy decent quality parts and pay attention to doing it right for the long haul. I'm interested in having a fun/good looking car that I LIKE, but sometimes wonder how others see it...esp. since it's a Fit. If I was in an Si I wouldn't be asking myself this question.

I'm a ricer.
I acknowledge that. I like that.
There are two kinds of ricers, ricers with taste (which I include myself in) and ricers without taste. As long as one has taste and can execute something cleanly, no one who knows anything will make fun.

Funny you should say that...one of my gf's friends came over while I was there w/ my car in her garage and the door was open. He's big into anything 40k + M3, Audi, Sti, etc...goes through a new car every 3 months.
He took a look at my car and said: "damn it's looking really good." He then asked where I got my front lip so he could order one for his Audi.
Guess you're right mike...a ricer w/ taste. Which makes me wonder if I could pull off a vented c/f hood...w/o engine work

These days, "rice" would get shamed to hell and back on a forum. I don't see very much of what I'd truly consider rice. As for the car being slow with mods on it, well that is another version of "rice" but originally the term was "all show and no go." Somehow the two sort of merged, but don't forget that your Fit does things and Si can't. The most hardcore enthusiasts I've known through the years who were born and raised on this stuff generally like fast cars, but do not scoff about miatas being girls cars and whatnot.
Honestly, the opinion was always an immature one spouted off by teenagers. Sometimes these things, and their origins need to be examined. Not to say I was around since the beginning or something. Far from it, but by the 90s, it was an accessible trend nationwide which created these larger labels, like "rice."
If it really concerns you, then turbo it and show 'em.

I eat brown rice numerous times a week.... I could consider myself to be a ricer but I'm a hotrodder at heart... Little VW's have been in my life for 43 years but I have swapped a SBC into an Austin Healey, and crammed a couple of old Chevy trucks with tricked Big Blocks... There have also been souped up British bikes and a couple of Harleys.. It is a hell of a lot more costly to make power these days and very labor intensive before you even pop of the head and change the cam(s)...
