I'm disinclined to claim that this minute amount of corrosion caused *all* my difficulty, BUT it was *most definitely* this pin. Of which there are two. They keep the transmission from falling on you when unbolting.

After some.. 10-15 minutes of fearful, full-strength wiggling (which shifted to become more strategic over time)
Here you see the shift fork and within it, on that shaft there, the filthy throw-out bearing.

I actually swapped these jack stands out for my bigger ones. The transmission is roughly 15" tall. Front to back, I'm roughly 8" thick in the torso (where the transmission would be sat), so add that to make 23", and then my creeper is between 1 and 2....
I wanted around 24" of clearance, and I think I hit or was close to my mark. fitting it out was NOT the issue.

And here's how I had to remove that horrible second bolt. Impact, impact extension ~10", deep well impact socket, impact wobble adapter... compact impact..
There are likely other ways.
