And I don't But I have to believe that something so expensive maintains a large part of its value in the black market. Especially with the popularity of Hondas and what I believe will be the incredible popularity of the GE over the next few years. That will drive the black market value for our unique parts higher.
However, if you ever want to trade your Fit in, you're really gonna want that stock stereo, as aftermarket stereos are worth much less at trade in. Which also creates demand, which creates some black market value. And your insurance rates will go up with a claim...
The Stereo in the Fit has very little value... Few people ever want a factory stereo back in the car and with the exception of full blown stereo systems, factory vs aftermarket has very very little importance on resale/trade value. I've had some decent head units in my cars (clarion DXZ835MP, DRX9575Rz DB635mp) and on trade, I offered to reinstall the factory and the dealer resposes were... keep the factory, we'll take the aftermarket.

You have to contact the dealer with the S/N of the radio and proof of ownership. Honda will then get you the radio code for your head unit.

I just mention these two cities as I'm a border resident and am familiar with this region, obviously stolen car stereos can go anywhere. Its not a statement against the people. Their residents and law enforcement have much more severe types of crime to worry over... like the killing machines constantly being smuggled in from the US.
Ahh.. Maybe not prejudiced but a bad choice of words. Pesos... along with other hispanic names/words with no other background information such as that you live on the border comes across as prejudiced and stereotyping. Especially for those of us that live have never heard of those towns because we live on a different border...

The chassis of the HU is double Din, but the faceplate which is part of the HU is HUGE. Not an under the coat Item.

All references were not to $500+ head units but to a $200 HU. Someone with a $500 HU has other intentions. like building a system or integrating Navigation.

None of my car's stereos have had pause, and I always wish they did. I switch modes when I need to pause the music, but thats just not the same.
If you want the True Honda Part on this... you'll pay that much and get complete factory integration. Parrot makes some great systems that integrate for $120 on up and have more features.

Hey, if you guys want to argue stock vs. aftermarket HUs go to the ICE forum. Leave this thread for tech info on adding the steering wheel controls to the stock deck.

The voice of reason.
Someone please make a DIY of this. I would totally do it, however, I'm not confident enough in my rewiring/dash disassembly skills.

We aren't arguing stock VS Aftermarket. I'm primarily an Aftermarket kind of guy but in this case, for what the OP was looking for, Stock makes sense. The OP is looking for Adding steering wheel controls and in this case, since it is possible and has already been done, My point of view is that sticking with the stock setup and adding the factory controls is the smart move. Adding an aftermarket HU doesn't guaruntee steering wheel controls unless they pick a company such as Clarion that makes an add-on steering wheel remote.

Not quite sure how this is the voice of reason... If they had gone and looked in the ICE forum, they would have seen this is already done...
I agree, too much arguing over stock vs. aftermarket, sorry if I kinda dragged this thread off course , although getting the same trade in value on an aftermarket system vs OEM is (good) news to me .
Anyway, back to controls on the wheel, it seems like the audio controls are possible and not too difficult, although I think the Base will require a different cable reel. What I'm now curious about is if the Navi's extra buttons would work... Or, even better, the Insight EX Navi's buttons... There's six of them It would be nice to map the right multi-info up/down buttons to next and previous folder, the bluetooth buttons would still be for bluetooth controls, the "voice" button for select/file navigation, and the "back" button for pause. The wheels seem identical, and for some reason all the relevant parts for the Insight are cheaper too. I would think you would need to use all the parts for the Insight including the audio/cruise buttons (which seem identical, but I would guess are wired differently) and the Insight's cable reel.
It would be awesome if someone tried this

This is a good question. I think you need to start with getting data from the Service Manual(s).
Then the question becomes... can anything understand those outputs? and what can you hook them up to?
How much more would it cost to get the Insight Buttons?
