Here is something I noticed and was curious if anyone else has:
2008 sport fit auto
Best so far was 41mpg at 85mph on highway (flat in florida)
80mph was less and 75mph was even less.
Shouldnt 85 be worse than 75?
I normally get 32 + or - 1mpg per tank with mixed driving.
1) Calculated or MPG gauge?
2) If calculated, how many miles between fills?
3) Which way was the wind blowing?
I'm skeptical about 41 mpg @ 85 mph; calculated consumption on > 300 miles in each direction, preferably using cruise control, over the same route would be much more reliable. But then you would have used 600 miles worth of gas just to settle a question.
I'm going from Orlando up toward JAX a couple of times this weekend. I'll fill up the tank on my way to I-4 each time. I'll set the cruise control at 65 the first time and 70 the next. I'll let you know how it goes.
I've got 36PSI in the tires now. How about going up to 40?

Just put my first tankful of gas in new '09 (Base) Fit Automatic.
I estimate about 30% "City" (Stop-n-Go under 35 MPH) 70% "Country" driving (45-55 MPH): 37.6 MPG (320 miles / 8.5 Gal.).
Fuel Level Gauge seems pretty accurate - read just under 1/4-tank.
The "Milage Minder" is pretty "optimistic" - it was sitting on 44.3/44.4 most of the last 100 miles. I have been driving big RWD US V-8 Sedans for several years using Scan-Gage (the original model). I have now put it in the Fit to compare with "Milage Minder". Typically it takes a few fill-ups for Scan-Gage to "learn" milage in a new car (self-corrects when you adjust actual fill-up qty. versus "predicted" value), I will enter updates here as I gather more data.
I felt the 37 MPG figure was awesome for a tight new car with under 500 miles - usually carrying total of about 350-400 lbs. of human cargo!

This would be a reasonably controlled experiment -- same route, and it's long enough to minimize fill measurement errors. If possible, fill from the same gas pump at the same station at the same time of day to control yet another variable. You should get better mileage at 40 psi but I doubt that inflation pressure (within reasonable limits) will have any significant difference on the gas mileage at different speeds.
With about 500 miles on my '09 (Base) Fit I had not checked the Tire Pressure yet - just took a look and it is sitting @ 28 PSI (temp. is about 70 F this AM).
I just posted milage at first fill-up yesterday but am pretty sure that will go up with a change in tire pressure (exclusive of "break-in")! Will re-check and go up to 36 PSI when temp. gets to 75-80 at mid-day, this should give me a cross-over with low tire pressure for first tankful...
Thought I would post this as an ALERT since I did not expect dealer to have pressure set so low for delivery - something for other new owners to check right away, I guess!
BTW: I use a Victor dial pressure gage - it is a good one. Would not rely on a cheapo plastic unit you can get at Walmart!

2 - full tank at start but didnt drive it empty. Maybe 200 miles? (wasnt a recent trip)
3 - dont know about wind but it was with traffic. maybe drafting has more effect at that speed?
I'm not on the highway for long that often otherwise I'd retry.
This is what I remember:
75 = 35mpg
80 = 38mpg
(different trips)
now that I think about it, 75=35 was in PA with hills
Guess I have to start over with the testing. Its just hard because you have to drive so far to test it.

I never trust dealers to provide as much attention detail as I would, which is why I do most of my own maintenance. I prefer digital tire pressure gauges, which I think are more accurate. I have never observed more than 0.5 psi variation among multiple digital gauges, vs much larger variations among dial gauges.
"Cold" tire pressure is one of those unfortunate terms, and really means when the tire is at ambient temperature. Temp makes a big difference, and within reason, over-inflation is preferable to under, so I set tire pressures in the morning, even if that means slight over-inflation by the heat of afternoon. Since tires naturally lose some air over time, it's especially important to check frequently in the fall, when temperatures drop; less frequently, when rising temperatures compensate for air loss.
325 miles this weekend going on the PA Turnpike..........MPG gauge read 42.5.
Filled up with 8.6 gallons........... 37.8 actual MPG. 11% difference
That was with A/C running the whole trip.
Engine has less than 800 miles.
Me so happy.........me love Fit long time !!!

Got back from a trip to Orlando to Jacksonville for my son's bicycle races. Good news. He won all his junior races and we got 43.8 mpg. And I don't even have 1,000 miles on the car yet. We packed two bikes, a stationary trainer, two bags (stayed in hotel, one night) extra set of race wheels, misc. bike tools, ice chest and a bag of food. Still had some room. A/C on the whole way. Drafted an 18 wheeler for a bit. I'm sure that helped.

I got 31 mpg so far, Fit Sport AT, about 75% crowded highway, rest stop & go, with a/c blasting in 90 degree heat. I expect to do better after initial break-in, and of course even better when I don't have to continually run the a/c.
I was impressed when I first got my vehicle. I drove it very gently, and on an open freeway where I accomplished almost 400 miles on a single tank. THAT is impressive. When you don't have to adjust speeds, the car shines! (2008 Sport, AT) I don't seem to be getting as good of mileage as I once did... Probably because I've had my battery got killed 2x... (mentioned in a thread already)
OK so i have filled the tank three times since i have my car (09' AT sport). I am averaging about 30-31mpg mixed driving. My in car computer (love it) is telling me 33-34mpg. I drove to the beach one day and was hitting 40-41mpg. Have since put surf racks one the car and drove to the beach this weekend with boards on top and.....only 30 mpg at best. put a fairing on the racks and my mileage went down 1 mpg. My friend who has an 09' MT sport is getting 37mpg....what gives i thought that the AT and Mt get the same MPG. I am heavy on the peddle i know but that's a big difference.

After reading the other posts about the MPG meter in the car being wrong by a great percentage I figured I would finally do it by the old way. Here is what I came up with. I filed the tank up to the neck so I could actually see the gas. I know that's not the greatest thing to do but I figured that's the only way to know for sure that you are putting the exact or (very close to exact) the same amount gas in the tank each time. I went until the fuel light went on and drove a little farther till my fuel up. Here are the numbers: 471 miles and put in 11.2 gallons of gas. How much was left in the tank ?????? I don't know but probably not much. Anyway the math brought this out to 42MPG even. My in car meter was saying 46MPG even. So I'm a little bummed about the difference but 42 isn't bad. I also used the A/C alot during the final 1/4 tank combined with around town driving. Now there may have been another other factor in this, my check engine light came on prior to my test starting, I was able to get it to the dealer to check out the problem at the half tank mark and they told me it the light came on because it was running lean. If it was running lean the O2 sensors would have been telling the computer to pump more fuel into the engine to compensate for the problem. This may have been a factor and may not have, either way I am going to check again next week to see if the numbers stay the same and let you know. BTW the tech said I may have gotten some bad gas which set off the engine light. I think that was their way of letting me know they had no idea why it went off. If I had bad fuel it should have set off a knock sensor or something else.
By the way has anyone tried to get an air filter for an 09 yet. I called 5 dealers in 2 states and multiple auto parts stores and NO ONE had any in stock. Everyone kept saying they are too new. TOO NEW my car is 2 months shy of a year old, how old does a car have to be before someone will stock minor maintenance parts. Also I found that the price for a Honda filter is 30.00, I ended up getting a K&N lifetime filter for 42.00, just clean it out every 50K miles.

I would never let a K&N go 50,000 miles without cleaning and re-oiling. Try once a year, regardless of mileage. K&N air filters may (or may not) make a difference in power, but they do not filter as effectively as a pleated paper filter.
Honestly I never intended to keep it in that long before I cleaned it, but that mileage is what they recommend. I wouldn't even let my paper filter go a full year before I changed it. Everyone I called asked the same question (why are you changing the filter so soon). I really don't care about the power aspect since I don't drive like a nut. I was more interested in being able to clean it out whenever I wanted to in order to keep my MPG as high as possible.
I filled up my new Sport Fit AT for the first time yesterday. The dealer said they refilled it before handover, so it was 355.4 miles since top-off, and it took 9.2 gallons. So that was 38.6 mpg! I generally drive for economy, but had played around with the shift-paddles some, which gobbled some gas. I hadn't increased the tire pressure, which I'm planning to do. Mostly rural PA highway miles, under 65 mph. I'm a happy boy!
I get about 27.5-29 (depending on how bad traffic is) combined city and highway (highway I take to work is like a parking lot, I sit for upto 10 minutes at a time in one spot). When I did strictly rural highway driving at 55 mph, I did about 33-34 mpg. I can drop down to about 26 mpg when I'm on the highway and doing 100+ mph.
2009 Fit Sport Auto - get 44 highway, 33 around town
I've had mine for several weeks. With AC running, I get 41 highway, and about 31 around town. On the highway I know I could get more if I did not drive so aggressively. I tend to use the passing lane a lot, and go 75mph. If I kept it at 60mph and stayed in right, I think I could get 50!
I've had my car for just days shy of a month and my best trip so far was a 45 minute drive to my mom's. I averaged 49mpg. All but a couple miles was highway, but holy beans! Perhaps all of this Minnesota road construction is paying off afterall. Good weather, nice smooth roads all the way and not horrible traffic for once.
It was at 51-52 the whole way until I got off the highway.
I wish I had my camera with me to prove it to everyone! It was awesome. That trip used to be a quarter tank of gas or more in my old Jeep.
