Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)
Have been averaging over 39 for past 3 tanks with the Ecopia 422s' . Go here for gas mileage for the 2011 base model with the 5 speed auto . It's under Blue ( Cinder ) . 2011 Honda Fit MPG Reports | Fuelly .
I picked up a used 2009 Fit with 13,000 miles for my daughter about a month ago. On the 300 mile trip home, I got 44.0 with the tank filled up to the top of the neck both times. The trip was non-Interstate highway with speed limits of 55 to 65 all of the way. Also the AC was not on. On the second tank of mixed rural highway and some city driving I got 40.1. My daughter now reports the lowest on a fill up she has seen is 37 that maximum was 39. She drives 8 rural miles one way to work each day.
Yes this is an automatic 2009 Sport. This is not using E-10. Luckily she lives in an area where E-10 is not around. I actually live in an E-10 area but 17 miles east of me we get real fuel so that is what we normally use.
2012 Fit Sport Auto with Navi. Total of 17 tanks of fuel best 42.46mpg wost 28.44mpg average of 17 tanks 37.16mpg most of my driving is between 6700 feet and 9680 feet above sea level in the western mountains of Wyoming. All mileage caculations were done my dividing mileage by fuel used. Instrument panel mileage was of as far as 3.5mpg on the plus side and .5 mpg on the negitive side.

Average Miles per Gallon decreased within 24hrs
I bought my new 2010 Honda Fit in Feb 2011 and have been averaging 34 mpg even with city driving. All of a sudden on Tuesday evening, within minutes and hours, the mpg average indicator began to decrease and by the next day, Wednesday at 4pm, my Fit averaged 30mpg:-( I have not done anything different: Same gas, tire pressure is same on all 4 tires, no major fast accelerations or stops...my ave mpg has never been below 34, so this is SUPER STRANGE for me! I called dealership service advisors and they blame the summer heat & air conditioner usage, but last summer of 2011 I never had this issue, which is why I'm not convinced the reason is the summer heat and AC. HELP please! Thanks!!
I have just over 6k on my 2012 Sport A/T and I've been averaging between 28-30 mpg but today I saw 35.9 and was pretty happy.
This is mostly city driving with heavy L.A. traffic and a little freeway mixed in.I'm comming from a supercharged Mustang that averaged around 10-15 mpg so I'm loving my new Fit

Did a fill of Gulf 93 w/E10 and got 41.22 ( 346.8 mis. / 8.412 gals. @ 1 click ) with the '11 5 speed auto . Display was 40.8 . Tires are Bridgestone Ecopia 422s' at 37 p.s.i.. There's over 1,000 miles on them . Driving was average speed of 68 on the interstate that was over 1/2 of the tank . 2 people for 1/2 the tank and around 25% city . That tank was 93 w/E10 as well .

I have several comments in here on real world milage and want to add a recent observation. When using the A/C I seem to drop about 3 MPG on a recent trip (280 miles) + about 45 miles city driving I got 39.5 with the A/C running I must say I am VERY pleased with this, we just need for gas to get cheaper!

I drove 344 miles today of all expressway driving. A lot of 55, some 65, and a little 70. Most of it was in Illinois with a state speed limit of 65.
Fuel was 100% 87 octane real fuel. It took 7.8 to fill it up. That equals 44.1 mpg. I try to never buy E-10 but occasionally I get stuck with it. I also checked the odometer calibration using the mile markers over 70 miles. I had a .8 mile error over 70 miles for an error of 1%.
Fuel was filled up to the top of the neck both times for maximum accuracy.

Filled back up yesterday with Sunoco 89 w/E10 and got 42.26 ( 369.6 mis. / 8.745 gals. ) calculated and the display was 40.5 . The gas was GULF 93 w/E10 . There was around 25% city . 3/4 or so of the 369.6 miles was 2 people . Ecopia 422 tires at 37 p.s.i.. Oil is the newer Honda Genuine 0w-20 ( Kendall S.N. ) . Have been getting 39+ m.p.g. more consistently since the install of the 422s' .

Just bought a certified used Fit from local Honda dealer (2007 Sport A/T) with 31k miles. The first fillup I got 21 MPG (all city), and the second (I'd say 60% hwy) got 29 MPG. Always fill up with regular BP (87 octane) until the first click. Is that normal? Feels like mpg kinda low, especially after seeing this post.. haha.. The A/C is always on thought, since it's pretty hot here. Any idea on what's wrong/how to improve? should I take it back to the dealer?
Most of my driving is 45-55 MPH country roads, City Driving will run mileage down a lot, esp. with A/C running! I keep A/C off under 40MPH unless it is really hot! At stop I turn-off A/C, turn fan back to "1" and switch air to "Recirculate" setting until I get back up to 40! Our Fit is black which means it gets REALLY HOT in the sun - I think some extra tint on the glass would help if you are in a hot climate. (I have a couple of those "baby shades" in the rear windows that I keep down when it is hot. Along with a reflective shade in front window when parked this keeps it a lot cooler...) Got 40.9 (calculated) on my last fill-up after changing oil/filter - my best mileage in all conditions is right around 50MPH, don't know how these guys get terrific mileage at 65-70! The Honda "Mileage Meter" is not very reliable but my "Scan Gage II" is very accurate - I have it programmed to display "Instantaneous" and "Avg. Mileage per Tankful" while driving, you can learn a lot from it!
Good Luck with the Fit - gas prices will go back up and you will be glad you bought it!

Yeah, that is actually a good point. At what speed do you guys go to get those high mpg? I heard speed matters too, though I don't know how significant. For my mostly-highway 29 mpg above, I was using cruise control around 72-76 mph, A/C on (sometimes blower even at 2 or 3). But I still feel the 21 city mpg to be really low...
Also, what kind of gas do you guys use? I'm using BP regular 87. Does the gas type matter?

Some folks here refer to having an option of using gas w/ 10% Ethanol or not. Here in western NY (maybe because we are in the same county as a major city?) we have no choice but 10% Ethanol. People have told me for years that some brands of gas give better mileage than others but I have never been able to verify that through my own experience. We use 87 octane from the gas station at local supermarket where we have a "loyalty card" that gives us up to $0.50/gallon off - that pretty much ties us to that source since the price even with $0.10 off beats all other local stations!
If you have a "loyalty card" here is a strategy I use to maximize the benefit:
I have 4 5-gallon gas cans that I take to the gas station every time I fill the Fit. The maximum amount I can buy on the loyalty card is 30 gallons so, with the 4 5-gal. cans I maximize my "buy" every time! I use the gas in cans to top-off tank in my other car and for the lawnmower in summer and the Jeep I use to plow our long driveway in winter. (Gas cans are expensive now but you can get one cheap sometimes at a yard sale - just make sure it is clean inside, has a tight-fitting nozzle, and doesn't leak!) (DO NOT SMOKE AROUND GAS CANS OR KEEP THEM IN THE HOUSE OR ATTACHED GARAGE! I keep always ours locked-up in detached shed.)
I mentioned it before, but tire pressure and suspension alignment are very important. I run 37psi cold in the stock Dunlops - the ride is rough but mileage is much better than with Honda's recommended inflation pressure!

We always use gas w/E10 . No choice in the area . Have 3 tanks of 40+ m.p.g. since 6 /23 . The display is 42 for current fill of Sunoco 91 w/E10 . Last 4 have been 89 octane up to 93 . Seems the F.E. can be kept at or above the display since the installation of the Ecopia 422s' . They're set at around 36 p.s.i.. The warm weather contributes as well . Changed oil about 3 weeks ago to Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 (S.N.) . Not sure if that's a factor . It was the Honda Genuine synthetic 0w-20 (S.N.) . Will work our way back down to 87 octane to see if any changes in F.E.. Will try to remember to post results .
