Tailwind? I find it can make a huge difference on a windy day.

Okay....
so after 30 fill ups i am averaging 29.3 mpg in my 09' AT.
i have surf/bike racks on the car. drive mixed C/H.
on the highway i get like 28-29mpg (i drive 70-80mph sometimes 85mph)
get 33mpg when i drive 70mph (country roads on way to beach)
30mpg solid in city driving.
Before i put the racks on top of the car i was getting 33mpg mixed driving
but got 40mpg on the way back from the beach with no racks on top so i guess if you try really hard and drive like grandma yeah you can get 35-40mpg.
Please when you post and tell people that you are getting 38-40mpg let us know how fast you are driving!
still beats the 15mpg i was getting in my ford!
love the fit! very zippy!

Just got back from a 680 mile trip, 90% highway, averaged 36.7mph (both indicated and calculated) maintaining between 64-67mph. The terrain was moderately hilly, long 3-4% grades with gusting winds. Getting my speed over 70mph brought it down to around 33, 75-80 averaged about 30. I have found that air temperature makes a huge difference, ambient temps over 70 increase my fuel economy noticeably. Once I put an intake runner on I might try to capture some of that warmer under-hood air for fuel economy.

I get about 34.5mpg with a mix of baltimore city and the local high way.
Not bad at all! Full tank gives me about 350miles before the reserve light comes on.

Can anyone tell me how much fuel is left when the reserve light comes on?

I was in traffic for a few miles. I looked down and it read 39.3
I thought..that cant be right....thats crazy.
I got out of traffic and it was at 38-37s
By the end of the day it went down to 36.9
I had a full tank when I started. I drove 141 miles that day and my tank was just a bit past 1/4 when I stopped
That was last week Sun
Its currently at 36.3
Before that Sun I was at 33.1-6

first tank in our 2010. 31 litres 373 km, works out to around 34 mpg (imp gallon). half of that was city, other half highway.

Thumbs up

With a little over 3k on my ride I'm getting 33 mpg and a couple weeks ago I went back home to Detroit and put the cruize on 75 mph and got 35.1 mpg and on the way home I tried 70 mph and got it up to 39.4 mpg. I expect the mileage to go up once the car is fully broken in...or is it already

Either way, I can't complain at all about the mileage when it exceeds the window sticker, that's for sure

That's great mileage and do anticipate an improvement as you put on additional m miles.

Averaging a little over 38 mpg after the first five weeks. Mostly suburban driving with one or two 80 mile highway trips a week. I've had to get on the gas pretty regularly for a few stops on my commute that are right at the bottom of hills as well. 40+ regularly looks feasible to me.

That has to be a record low, koi needs to hear about this........I am sure that either someone siphoned some fuel from your tank or there was some kind of mistake in filling the tank or with the numbers.

Just got back from a trip from Orlando, Fl to Athens, GA. Loaded down with stuff for the big Athens Twilight Bicycle race. Got 38.2 mpg on the way up and 41.3 on the way back. The difference was drafting semi's. I don't get too close, maybe 5 car lengths back (sometimes 3 or 4). Makes a big diff. BTW - I had the dealer re-load the software that calculates the mpg for the mileage minder even though my VIN was not listed as part of the recall. Now it is within a couple tenths when I get 37+ mpg and a mile or two off if I'm in the low 30 mpg. My FIT has about 16,000 miles on it in about 9 months. The high-mileage life of a dad whose son races bicycles!

Your results are about the same as mine, amazing I expect this car to keep going up a little bit more but I wonder at what point the engine is "broken in", hmm With going from 2500 to about 4000 miles, the mileage went up exactly 3 mpg going to Detroit and 4.2 mpg going back to Chicago.

My question is this though, how in the hell is the EPA figuring this car to only get 33 mpg, are they going 80-85 mph or what

EPA is all estimation. They don't push their cars in the real world and can only take guesses at how efficient your car will be there. In fact it wasn't too
long ago that they changed their estimation standards to supposedly give
you more realistic numbers. Perhaps the best thing you can do with EPA estimates is use them for comparisons sake.
