I just filled up again and got 30.9mpg using only the "D" mode of my Sport AT...much better than the "S" mode.

Just filled up my tank. I'm getting about 28.63 MPG with my AT Sport. This is 80% city driving with AC on most of the time. My revs are never over 3.5k.

SPORT AUTO TRANS gas mileage?
hey the "gas mileage" thread is getting super long and most posts don't include a transmission description. i'm just interested in what those with the sport auto transmission are averaging for mileage...
thanks.

I've gotten on my first tank 28 and my second 27 this is all city driving and little bit of highway. Of course I just broke the 600 mile break in so I'm hoping to see better results.
BTW I have sports auto

I have a Sport AT and my mpg went up from 29-30 to over 33 on the last fillup. The roads and highways are crowded, and I spend about 2 hrs/day mixed use commuting, with limited opportunity to use the cruise control.

First fill up at just under 300 miles yielded 33.3 mpg in mostly city driving using the Drive mode in my Sport AT. If I had been using the paddle shifters mileage would have been less since the paddle shifters only go to fourth gear. in Drive mode you have a fifth, overdrive, gear.

That doesnt make sense to me. I dont believe that in Sport Mode you are limited to only 4th gear. Looking at the gear ratios, 4th and 5th are both overdrive gears.

Using the paddles in Sport mode, you have 5 gears. The trick is that you can put the car in Sport and NOT use the paddles and the car will act like its in Drive without a 5th gear. This might be handy if driving on a hilly road that caused a lot of shifting back and forth between 4th and 5th.

I've notice that you can use the paddle shifter in D mode cause I accidently hit the - and it downshifted to 4th and when I came to a complete stop the 4 went away. So I tried to shift while taking off and it shifted, but once I stopped shifting up to 3 it shifted automatically... Weird... I hope its not a bad thing I only did it once. But lets get back to the topic

In my Sport AT, when I drive like a maniac, I get 29mpg (US) so far. Feather-foot 55-70mph freeway, 36-37 mpg. Presumably I'll average 32-33 probably.

27.8 mpg on my latest (second or third?) tank
But it was mostly city driving, lots of fast accelerating, and idling. And it was Arco gas, which is supposedly watered down and cheap. Meh. Today I filled it with 89 octane gas from 76, so we'll see. I hope it gets better.
Does octane make a big difference in gas mileage, performance, etc?

So are you saying that while in Sport Mode, the tranny will automatically upshift for you? I thought it wasn't supposed to do this. Since you said "Not using the paddles", that implies to me that starting from 0 mph and accelerating, the car will automatically shift from 1->2->3->4.

Sport mode is like Drive mode without 5th gear, until you use the paddles, then it switches over to strictly manual and a lower-case m appears next to the gear number.
