Wet floor on driver side. Where to start?

Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum. My father's Fit (2008, MT, LX from Canada) has a leak but I don't know where to start to find where it comes from. Check the photo. The carpet is all wet as well as the foam underneath it. The floor is all rusted. The rubber mats hooks were all rusted so it must've leak for years. Someone at the dealership says could be the roof, they've seen it before but at the back of a car. Really doubt it. Would like to find it myself before going to the garage.

What would you do to find the cause?

Just a follow up if anyone is having the same issue in the future. I started by removing the front door panel to see if there were any leak coming from there. I read that a lot of Fit were having this issue with a plastic film not properly sealed inside the door. Mine was fine.

Second I checked the roof gutter since a lot of Fit have a problem with this seam cracking at the back. I'm now pretty sure it's coming from this gutter but at the front, leaking in the pillar beside the windshield and finding a way into the drive side. The metal part of the hood latch release handle is rusted too. I'm going to remove the plastic cover to check underneath it and report back here. If it's really a roof leak I'm planning on putting some transparent Amazing GOOP automotive adhesive. Supposed to be flexible, waterproof, flexible and paintable.

Thanks for the update! Definitely let us know if you track down the actual cause.

I've had the driver side floor wet once as well but it seems to have stopped since I re-sealed the welds in the gutter in the rear (just near the hatch). I don't know if it's related or I was just lucky. The other potential issues (door, gutter in the front) is what I've seen mentioned but didn't need to touch myself so far.

I took the time to clean the gutters today before re-sealing the welds with Permatex windshield sealant. It’s flowable so it’s supposed to go inside the cracks.

They were cracks at the front and at the back but also around the hatch hinges. I also removed the cowl at the front, removed the dirt with a vacuum and a brush to see if there was a leak coming from that part but everything seems ok, no apparent crack, no rust or no damaged grommet.

So it’s definitely not coming from the door or the firewall. Must be the cracks at the front. I’m going to let the sealant cure for 24h and I’ll do a test with my hose. I still got to remove the rust under the carpet, prime and paint the floorboard.

Hopefully that fixes it for you! I should probably check the front of the gutter as well, I actually haven't done that when I fixed the rear.

Was your leak solved? I’m new to this forum and the Fit car. First thing I thought was heater core or a/c line leaking into cabin.

I thought it was solved. It rained a lot the day I took the car to the repair shop to fix the hole in the floor. I quickly touch the carpet and felt it was a bit wet but I didn't have the time to check further. I asked the repair shop guy if he notice anything but he didn't.

Thanks, I'll check the heater core and A/C line when I can but I'm thinking maybe it's the windshield sealant is compromise. Now it's below freezing point here and we're waiting 6 inches of snow tomorrow, I'll have to wait a while before I can add new sealant.

did you ever open the driver side door panel and check the weather seal liner? those are usually tar sealed but those can dry out and allow water in. also check the door gasket itself, is it ripped?
