2008 5-speed MT Ideas?

2008 Honda Fit Sport 5-speed MT 295k miles

Couple days ago I noticed a squeal type noise when I pushed in the clutch and thought I might be needing a new throw out bearing? ( clutch seemed to work normally) two days later sitting at a light I heard a slight pop. Wasn't a bang or very loud at all. It wouldn't go anywhere. Clutch felt normal, shifting action seemed normal but even with shifter in gear, it rolled like it was in neutral. It was started and shut off a few times and the last time I thought I could hear a grinding noise so I shut down immediately.

So..... I'm not a mechanic, hate working on cars actually, but figured the transmission needed to come out, regardless of whatever the problem is. I thought I would humbly post here and pick the brains of all you more experienced folks.

Any tips, tricks, Ideas..... anything is appreciated.
Thanks, Chris

Could be transmission, but the first thing to check is that you didn't break an axle.

I have very limited knowledge and currently attempting to remove the Axles. It would be pretty obvious of one was broke?

Yes, the broken axle would be broken in half. It's pretty common in salt states, where Honda will often replace broken axles for free (or if you're lucky, you get them to replace your rusted axle before it breaks). There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) about it.

I quickly scanned the list for 2008 and didn't see a TSB for the axle, so maybe it's not relevant for the GD3. You should confirm that. It's definitely a thing with 2009-2013 Fits.

Here's a broken axle on a 2008 Fit.

Skip to about 2:00 unless you want to spend several minutes with a man who is apparently very excited about cable ties...

I don't want to slow your roll, but if you hate working on cars and have very limited knowledge of what you're doing, why are you removing axles and trying to remove the transmission yourself? I'm not saying you shouldn't, or that it won't be a learning experience, or that you can't figure it out, but if there's a good chance that you'll have to have someone else fix things it might be more efficient to jump to that step right now.

.

Update* it was a broken axle.

Thank you for the completely accurate information. I got a little ahead of myself working on the driver side axle trying to get ready to pull the transmission and totally missed the completely obvious snapped in half axle on the passenger side. Found one in stock for less than $75. Sorta feel dumb, but also relieved that I don't have move forward with the Transmission or Clutch replacement.

Thanks a gazillion Drew!

Glad to help and happy to hear that you'll get out of this relatively cheaply.
