Frozen Seatbelt Fix
Frozen Seatbelt Fix
Hi,
I have a 2008 Honda Fit. Someone didn’t stop at a four-way intersection, where I had the right of way, and hit me on the front left part of the car. The side airbag went off, it’s still drivable, but my driver side seat belt locked in position, and won’t extend nor retract.
I looked for solutions, and found a place in Maine that told me that a seatbelt explosive charge deploys, and that I will need to remove my seatbelt, send it to them and they’ll fix and send it back for about $75, and it’ll take about a week.
That’s not too bad, but I need to go to work, I don’t really want to drive without a seatbelt. I thought of sending it in and taking Ubers for a week, but then I thought maybe there’s another solution. I learned that Honda has lifetime warranty for the seatbelts, but it doesn’t apply if to collisions.
Aside from sending in my seatbelt and being without one, or getting one from the dealer, does anyone have any solution to fix the seatbelt so it retracts properly?

1). Do you carry a passenger? Swap the passenger belt over while you get your driver's belt fixed.
2). Scrapyard - if you find a Fit that was junked for some reason other than a collision (e.g., rust, blown motor) the seatbelt should be okay. There's a good chance that the Fit seatbelt is not unique to the Fit. If someone here can confirm that, it's possible that your population of donor cars could increase significantly (e.g., maybe early 2000s Civics used the same belt).

If it's good enough for a washing machine, it's good enough for me.

Honda has lifetime warranty on all of their seatbelts. No matter the number of previous owners, year, model, and trim level. If there are any issues with the factory seatbelts Honda will repair or replace them at no costs. As long as the parts are still available from Honda.
It clearly says and or shows this in your factory owners manual. I had Acura put new seatbelts in my 1988 Integra a few years ago because they quit working properly. $1,000+ bill covered by Honda. On a car that was probably worth less than that at the time.
