That salesman is talking out his ass. the only thing that happens to Hondas with the battery gone during a swap is the radio becomes locked out, and you must input the code.
I have seen that in upperclass german cars a few times though. It is actually a feature that if the car is shut off with the secured key, and then system looses power, and for some reason you use an un-secured key, like a fresh cut form walmart or something. Then the system thinks a theft is happening and locks out til a dealership call is made.
I got an O'Reilly auto parts 51R, and it fit my 08 Base fine. I just had to put it in backwards for the terminals. No special tactics.
By backwards, I mean, the logo facing the firewall. It's snug between the stock airbox, fuses near the fender and the reservoir behind it.
I just put in a Costco 51R battery, and it fits sideways but too tight. I was going to modify the post adaptors, but I'm going to try putting it in backwards tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tip! Btw, mine cost $92 yesterday, and they're all now warrantied for only 36 months.
Me too, 1st one lasted about a year but think I might have hurt it by the dash cam running it dead too many times. The warranty starts fresh when they replace one. I cut a piece off a 5 gallon paint stirrer to fit under the hold down to evenly apply the pressure on the top, not just on the edges.
We wired our Dashcam direcrectly so that the parking protect feature would work, and within a week the old battery was dead. We just installed the 51R at a slight angle. For years we sometimes heard this weird sound like the starter was going out soon, and the sound is now gone with the new battery. It starts up faster.
If anyone found a battery tray that fit without have to cut anything and it works on 2007 or 2008 honda fit. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Did you have to use the shims or mash the battery post to make the cables fit? I did this upgrade a few years ago with the shims but have had connection problems lately and I think it might be the shims loosening up.
Stock 151R is now over $200 at least in California where I am (about $240 otd after tax and core). Does Costco still offer the 51R? (Have '07 Fit Sport.) Heh, the battery on Amazon is $325.

That is absolutely untrue. MSRP from Honda is not even close to $200. You still shouldn't touch $200 with tax & core charges.
with the clamp snug, i use a brass wood screw, about 1" long, and screw it into the gap, where the clamp ends are, then tighten the clamp. spray anti corrosion all over it when finished. stops the clamp from slipping up or off. Just unscrew it, when removing the battery. It works for me.

Just wanted to chime in that the 51R Costco Interstate battery mod still works fine in 2026, I just did mine following the directions in https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ml#post1431602 on a 2009 GE Honda Fit
