is this normal?..
is this normal?..
i just got a used 08 fit (manual trans.) and when the car is parked and i press the clutch the sucking sound from the intake goes away?..not sure if its the intake tho. but when i release the clutch hizzy soud comes back..any ideas?
Clutch noise like you describe is usually a throwout bearing dragging on the pressure plate. On some vehicles there is a spring to pull the bearing back off of the pressure plate and the spring might be off or broken. That bearing pushes on the clutch pressure plate when you step on the clutch pedal.
I have never replaced one in a FIT so others here will have to give you more information on it and tell you if there is such a spring. If you do end up replacing the bearing, I would suggest replacing the entire clutch as the same time. The labor involved is almost the same.

i listened to those video on youtube regarding throw out bearings or synchro's going bad...i can tell its not the sound..i mean more on like air intake?...sorry maybe a dumb question just curious coz i used to drive a scion before didnt notice this...
Not sure if this is an adequate or correct answer, but when you press the clutch in the car goes to neutral. When the car is in neutral the engine is not "sucking" in air therefore wouldn't make the "intake" of air noise unless your engine is revving hard.
When the car is in gear, the engine is breathing. The breathing is the air being pulled into the engine through the intake.
At low RPMs the engine is still breathing but the valve for the throttle body is not open until the gearing is engaged and the gas pedal is being used.
Don't know if this is the problem or solution but my thinking is it makes sense!!

I do not know. The engine is still sucking some air (not much) when the clutch is pressed because the engine is slowing down to or at an idle. In fact that is when there is the highest vacuum in the engine. I thought about a vacuum leak like in a brake booster but that does not make sense when pressing on the clutch. I'm also thinking about exhaust noise, but that should not be a hissing sound.
It is difficult to remotely diagnose things that are sound oriented. I think we might have to wait and see what he comes up with.
OP, do you have any idea where the noise is coming from?

Thanks for all the answers guys...to hatchpat thats a good explanation it make sense so im guessing its just the intake im hearing that is sucking air,or maybe im just over reacting with this sounds..but im more concerned bout being in first gear coming from stop and on high rpm's sound changes like close to reverse sound? Im not familiar with signs of throw out bearing goin bad..but couple of minutes of driving evrything sounds normal even the 1st gear
so i have another update..would be the best i can describe the sound, and it only happens evry first take off..meaning car was park for few minutes then start to drive again at 1st gear when i reach 3k rpm sound change like a spinning ring maybe a couple of seconds then it goes away..and as i continue driving i wouldnt hear any sound on evry gear totallyg gone,,so my observation is just happens in evry first drive/ take off's...any other ideas?
Check the exhaust manifold shield. Mine apparently warped and was causing a noise at certain RPMs.
I changed that out and it solved the problem. You could simply remove it and see if that solves the problem. If it does, then invest the money to buy a new one and replace it. I think the shield was around $40 for a new one.

Yes, I removed mine from the top. I believe I needed a swivel socket to get to all the 10mm nuts necessary to remove it.
I tried tightening it first but all the nuts were tight and it didn't resolve the problem. REmoved it and sound went away so I replaced the shield and all has been good since.
Mine sounded like a higher pitched vibration that I heard when I was shifting between gears (as I pressed in the clutch and let off the gas). Heard it mostly in lower gears.
Really a tough sound to figure out where it was coming from and I first thought it was in the tranny but it was just a $40 shield.
Best of luck and I hope its that.

thanks!...i might need that swivel thing those parts are really hard to reach...
im hoping i have the same problem as yours...and your correct really realy hard to figure out where sound is coming from...
last quesiton, i havent had a fit before..and im not really familiar with the sound of stock engine i noticed that at idle i can hear the air sucking sound from the engine not too loud but when i press the clutch it fades away..is this how our stock intake sounds like?

clutch pedal will not change noise from intake
some good reading on throwout vs pilot bearing noise:
Clutch Noise when Idling. Goes away when clutch pedal pressed. - RX8Club.com
really hard in general to do noise troubleshooting but I have read a ton of "noise goes away when I push clutch pedal down" and its usually the pilot. Happened on my Acura but I replaced entire clutch at the time

i tried to listen of all the sounds they make like a bad TOB,ISB and pilot bearing most of them has squeeling, grinding or rattling sound..mine sounds like hissy or or sucking air..maybe im to over thinking..ill wait till the sound gets worse, LOL! thanks for all your help tho!..
update!..i recorded my engine at idle trying to listen if theres any weird sound coming from the tranny..ignore the sound from 00:17 to 00:22 its a loud motorcycle passing by..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJwn...ature=youtu.be
