Red face Help! Looking to buy an 07 Fit !

Hi, I'm new to the site and I'm very interested in buying a 2007 DX Fit as my first car.

The one I'm looking at is a 2007 Black DX, manual 5spd. It's only had 1 owner, and it was lady driven. It has about 215000km or 135000 miles, which I find kind of high but I've heard the fit is very reliable vehicle and would make a first great car!

Im going to take a look at it and test drive soon, so I was wondering if theres anything in particular i should look/listen for and any specific questions I should ask?

Any advice is greatly appreciated ! Thanks all !

Make sure the power windows all work. Check under the floor mats for damp carpets. Also check the spare tire well for signs of water.

You can SEARCH the foruim for specifics.

Look for receipts for service work, and maintenance. At around 100K miles, the spark plugs should have been replaced, and a valve adjustment done. While test driving, check for rough running under acceleration or idle which could indicate the need for coil packs.

None of these are deal breakers, as you said the Fit/Jazz is very reliable. Just adjust your offer if you will need to have these services done.

Great advice from Carbuff2 - Just remember the car does have some issues with rattling noise from the dash - it is pretty normal. Also make sure that the Fit has all issues or recalls done. I have a 2007 and it has been recalled for harness wiring, power window switch that could catch fire if it gets wet. Want to make sure those issues were resolved which were covered under the recall and fixed for free. Hope you are able to get the car and welcome to the Fit Freak Family.

Hi

The best part of being a Fit owner is knowing how lucky you are.

Hi. I'm a recent 2007 sport owner. I strongly recommend looking into a LX. An LX should only be a few hundred more in the price of acquisition and you get A/C and cruise control. The cruise control is absolutely fantastic on long trips and even if I do 95% of my driving in the city, I feel like its a bare necessity.

Also, I know what you're thinking, it's Canada and it only gets very hot a few months of the year so I don't need AC, I'll just roll down the windows. I use my AC very frequently in the winter when I use the windshield defogger. I find my fit is prone to window fogging (even more so than other cars I've owned or driven). If I had to struggle with constantly trying to wipe the fog of my windshield, I'd be an unhappy camper.

I think it's downright idiotic to sell cars without AC and would never buy one. It seems the car you are considering is pretty high mileage, and has no AC or cruise... I might look for something with slightly less miles and the LX trim (or at least DX-A for crying out loud ). Be sure to check frequently because those cars sell fast unlike the DXs that hang around because ppl don't want to buy a car with no cruise or AC.

The most important thing is to purchase a carproof report. Make sure the car hasn't been in important accidents or declared a total loss or salvage title. I've saved myself 3 times by purchasing a carproof report; the first 2 times were salvage titles trying to be passed off as clean titles and the last time I learned that there was lean on the car I intended to buy.

Also, I'd look into having the car evaluated by a recommended CAA mechanic. They'll tell you exactly whats up and what needs to be repaired or replaced in your vehicle. If you are a member of CAA (worth it in my opinion), you get an important (30% or so) rebate on a full mechanical check that's less than 150$ if I remember correctly. A sound investment for peace of mind and to really know what you're getting. Of course, if you are a pro mechanic and can spot a faulty spark plug just by listening to the car start up then skip this

Hope my advice helps you somehow.

Hey everybody,

Wow thanks for all the great feedback !!
So to answer your questions all in one shot, here goes:

MTLian- apparently this Fit has A/C! I was worried about that too when i researched it but he specified that there was A/C. So perhaps it's the DX-A version?
Also, I have purchased the Carfax and there weren't any issues reported, only thing that stood out was that there was mileage inconsistency reported.

Lakia5524- She's selling it for $5500 cert/etested !

Thanks everyone !

That looks like a great deal if you don't do too many long trips on the highway (cruise control). Congrats. The model you are looking at is a DX-A (if there is no cruise on the steering wheel). I'd try and put the air conditioning on full tilt to make sure it works because getting the freon refilled in Canada is expensive unless you do it yourself. It's not a deal breaker but if it doesn't work well you can get the seller to drop some $$$ for the repair.

In Canada we have 4 trim levels for the fit:
DX: barebones fit
DX-A: the above plus A/C
LX: the above plus power locks, cruise control.
Sport: the above plus body kit, exhaust finisher, alloy wheels, leather wrapped steering wheel, black interior (instead of grey)

My 2007 Fit !

Hey everybody !! So I can't seem to figure out how to attach jpegs to this forum in my response? The only option it gives me is a LINK to a picture?

Also I had a couple questions:

1. I noticed when I shut my car off, and i pull out the key, the car is still running ! the lights are on, when i press on the gas it revs the engine…and it doesn't shut off till about 10 secs later… any thoughts?

2. When I shift into fifth gear on the highway, it revs at about 3.5-4 grand, depending on when i'm accelerating or not. Is this normal?

Thanks all!

when posting picture I think you have to do the link thought something like imageshack.com and post the link..
With the car not shutting off right away sounds like somethings not registering right as you turn it off, could be a fuse going bad, I know when I was installing led to my fuse under the driver side I pushed the wire in with the fuse started the car went to turn it of and it still ran with the key out hard to say what it could be, mabey try pushing in the key a little while turning it off and make sure its on the last turn off position I had a car that if I didn't make sure it was turned all the way to the off point I could turn it a little and pull it out.. hopefully its not something inside the actual key switch component..

You need to do a very thorough inspection to make sure there are ZERO extra "custom" wiring jobs in the car.

Also is is automatic or manual?

Pop the hood, is there any extra stuff going on near the throttlebody?

Yes, it is manual ! and the car is stock, the only thing it has different is the previous owner installed another alarm system. would that affect it ?

Sounds like maybe a remote starter. My remote starter functions exactly like you describe except my engine will shut off if I touch the brake. I have to exit the car with the engine running and then shit my door to stop the engine and arm my remote starter.

Remote starter makes sense. Perhaps the alarm had ability to start and stop motor?

Time to break out a manual and start ripping that crap out to return to factory

Or you can opt to go to a security or audio shop and explain the problems and see if they will help for a good price
