Just did my recall last week, didn't take long. Something to do with the window switch.

I think my Fit had recall work done before I owned it... brakes maybe? I haven't encountered any issues other than the lurching thing (which has mysteriously disappeared) but I guess I'll keep an eye on the switch. I had noticed a weird odor once or twice before when it was really humid, like old milk. Haha, whatever... possibly the AC system. Couldn't find any water or leaks.

Seriously confused

OK, I just took my Fit in for the window switch replacement. The car had already had the old, outstanding, plastic shield put inside that the previous owner had neglected to do.
I just got home and read my service sheet:
"13-052 Power Window Switch Recall; Inspected the power window switch and checked all three terminals and center post with PCB and lighted switches. Everything is fine at this time."

What the heck does that mean? I thought they were replacing the window units on all the models. Did I just get duped again by the dealer????

You didn't get duped anymore than the rest of us. I wanted to do my recall a few months ago and the dealer said to wait until the parts came in for two reasons. Since there are no parts, all they could do was to inspect to "see if the particular car actually needed the parts changes." If it didn't need the parts then the recall would be done just by inspection, alone. If it needed the parts I'd have to bring it back a second time when they got the parts. So, evidently, not all the cars need this fix. I didn't want to have to bring it back a second time so I opted to wait for parts to come in, just in case I actually needed them. So, you were one of the lucky ones who didn't need some big four thumbed mechanic messing with things that are already working. Feel grateful.

I had my 08 Fit in for oil change and tire rotation two weeks ago.
They did check the door switch, and I did talk directly with the tech who did the inspection.
He said there was no indications of water ever getting to the switch. The water shield was installed during the first recall a couple years ago.
He told me that the water shield will keep water out of the switch most of the time.
But if you leave the window down, and it rains hard, you will very likely get water into the switch.
They inspect the switch, and if any signs of corrosion is found, they replace the switch. If not, they just inspect and button it back up.
Finally, he said even the best techs, sometimes break the clips. He said if they break a clip, they replace it, as they have them in stock, and they bill Honda for the part.

I'll have to polish my car for weeks just to make up for this violation. Ugh, where's the shower?

Ok, I'm clean now. So, my plastic shield will protect me from most of the water. So I don't have to do anything further until significant rainfall gets into the electronics and sets my car on fire. Then I'll know it is time to get the new panel put in.

I took my wife's Fit in for the recall and everything with the switch is Ok. They also did an inspection of the car and found the front pads worn down to the minimum so I had them replace the pads rather than having to come back in a couple weeks to have them replaced when the bakes began to squel.

Every time I bring my car in for service the dealer returns it to me clean because they include a no charge hand car wash

Same here - the switch was checked and showed no sign of failure. I would have felt better to have it replaced but I guess if it shows no sign of anything out of normal they just leave them alone.

Oh, you brought it in for the "check" visit. You'll get another letter in the mail to actually have it replaced, regardless of what it looks like (just got my letter today). The "check" visit was a CYA on Honda's part where the tech basically looks for evidence of moisture incursion and replaces the switches on the spot if any is found. There were (then) a limited amount of the switches, so they couldn't yet say "hey everyone bring in your cars for the fix".

Correct. I just had mine installed today. The thing is, the second recall notice said that the switch would be replaced but the notice was so poorly written that dealers just did another inspection. So since May, I had mine inspected with a new plastic shield installed, inspected again when the second recall notice came out, inspected a third time because the dealership was in denial, and now voila, as a result of the completely new recall notice number, the dealer acknowledged that I was right all along and installed the new switch. What a goat rope.

Just got this too. I'm not too worried though. I need to schedule some time to take the fit in!

Me, too. The techs screwed up the armrest fitment either taking it off or putting it back.

Good God Man don't let those 7 fingered misfits touch your car! LOL.
I wouldn't let those "Monkeys" close to my car after reading all the things they break! And on top of that who leaves their windows down in the rain anyway?
Or does Honda know that the roof leaks are so bad that it rains inside our Fits with the windows rolled up?
yep...."What a goat rope" well said BurntZ

After the switch was installed, I took my car through an automatic car wash with all the windows down to test the new switch and to get all the dealership stink out of my car.

I'd love to see a new policy that gave the consumer 2 options as far as recalls:

Option 1: Bring the car in and have the recall done by your local dealership for free.

Option 2: Send the consumer the part directly, and in exchange, they sign a waiver leaving American Honda free and clear of any liability stemming from the consumer's improper installation of said part.

I'm not a lawyer, but this seems like it could be a pretty obvious win-win. Dealerships don't like recall work because it pays crap and takes tech time that could be spent on higher-dollar jobs. Honda doesn't like recall work because they have to pay for labor (albeit at a cheaper rate) + the cost of the part. Consumers (us) don't like recall work because a number of us have been on the receiving end of shitty dealer workmanship. Why not let those of us who are inclined handle the recalls ourselves?

I'm sure there'd be exceptions, but I'd prefer to do little stuff like this myself, because no one works on your car with the same care that you would.

I had both recalls performed; the dealer would not let me install the switch myself. While upgrading the front speakers last week, I was able to inspect their handiwork. Yep, the arm rest is broken (can't see it with the panel installed).

And i've been questioned on why in prefer to do my own car maintenance.😳
