Strange whine from engine bay 07 fit sport m/t

Hi everyone,

I'm getting a strange whining noise from the engine bay of my 07 fit sport.
it is not a consistent whine/whirr, but sometimes it comes and goes.
It seems to happen most often at a cold startup, and tends to go away after several minutes of driving.
when the noise is happening, engine rpm seems to affect the pitch of the whir/whine, but driveline speed does not affect it.

i tensioned the serpentine belt more, and the noise went away for a day (could be completely chance) and then the noise returned the next day.

it's a pretty pronounced noise from the accessory side of the engine bay, i just can't seem to pinpoint what the noise is from....

it's not a typical belt slip noise.

i'm working on uploading a video right now, just a phone video so not great, but maybe will get some of the noise across.

the video is cold idle from this morning.

Sure sounds like a belt tensioner to me. If you have a spare minute take the drive belt off and see if the noise goes away and or the alternator spins freely.

no belt on there eliminates the noise.
i swapped the idler pulley and the belt and the noise is still there
screwdriver stethoscope pinpoints it to the alternator.

does anyone sell bearing replacements for the alternators?
or do i need to buy a whole one.

also, looks really really tight to get it out. does the intake manifold need to come out too?

I'm having a similar noise on my '08 with 125k miles. I was thinking it was serpentine belt, but noise is still there after replacing that. Did you ever find root cause?

it ended up being the water pump.
Hope it solves it for you too!
