The missus has a Fit
2007 Honda Fit Sport 5spd MT is @ Jones Honda in Lancaster awaiting a fuel pump. There goes her trip to the mountains of PA.
Service manager tells her the only one in the US of A is in California and it can't be overnighted.
Now the details Fit died (crank no start)and was towed to the guy we use for repairs and inspections to check out. It would lock up his scan tool but testing showed the pump ran and it was getting voltage to the coil packs. Cranking showed no ground signal @ packs.
We had it retowed to the Lancaster Honda dealer that sold it to her where they found the fuel pump wiring harness connector was burned and had melted the connector on fuel pump hence new pump not just insert.
The service manager told the missus the harness was free but the pump was $650 plus $100 for overnight shipping. This was before he found it couldn't go air freight.
Since BK Honda lists a Pump Assembly Module 17045SLNA01 for less than $300 MSRP something doesn't pass the sniff test.
Edited to add: After looking closely at the diagram of the wiring harness there might not be a separate piece for the fuel pump/sender. If they got to rip the whole harness out this is going to be expensive for what they pirate per hour for labor.
Any ideas?
Anybody ever hear of problems with the fuel pump wiring harness like a TSB or secret recall?
Final edit: I called and talked the service guy, the $650 is parts and labor, the confusion was his quote of an extra $100 for overnight shipping caused the missus to think that the charge was for the parts. Also they are just replacing the connector at the end of the wiring harness. The fact they have a connector in stock make me wonder if there haven't been problems with it on other Fits.

Car-part has salvage ones all across the country for $40-100 (there's 3 within 50 miles of me in upstate NY). If it were me, I'd find a 3rd party mechanic to install one of those; or maybe due to the availability issues the dealership would even do it. Especially since its a wiring issue, not with the part itself.
Update on the Fit.
We got down to the Honda store to pick it up Friday. They showed us the connector and the fuel pump and all I can say is the wife was really lucky. The connector body was melted and burned around the +12v pin and the pin itself was blacked from the heat. Now the scarey part. The corresponding pin on the fuel pump and its surrounding was also melted THROUGH THE TOP OF THE PUMP. We were lucky that the heat didn't ignite the gas fumes grenading the car.
The technician thinks the connector wasn't assembled onto the wiring harness correctly because the +12v wire had a kink in it where it was pinched in the closure. The +12v pin wasn't making full contact with the corresponding pin on the fuel pump.
Since the top of the fuel tank had all sorts of debris on it there is the possibility that the pins were also corroded, they llooked that way at a quick glance. The connector sits in a recess on the top of the fuel pump and is supposedly sealed with a rubber o-ring.Water could collect in the recess if the connector or the o-ring fails.
When he reassembled the harness and fuel pump the technitina filled the cavity on the top with dielectric grease to keep any moisture out.
Needles to say if you guys want to keep your Fits without the possibility of ending up like a marshmallow that was too close to the campfire. You might want to have that fuel pump connector inspected. If it happened to one car ...
Edited to add, the technician scanned the ECM and there were no DTC codes so the crank no start was no fuel pressure. Apparently they don't used the scan tool as a matter of routien when servicing cars.

Resurrecting this dead fuel pump connector post
I know I'm making a zombie with this dead post but having a similar issue with my fuel pump connector. Noticed the 12v pin has some scorching/discoloration on the 4 pin connector that plugs into the top of the fuel pump. Took a very small piece of sandpaper and worked it into the connector then cleaned with electronics contact cleaner. This fixed the problem for a few days then came out in the morning to a car that would not start again. Measured voltage drop for + and - wires back to battery and confirmed full battery voltage coming to pump under load. Found that the fuel pump is pulling about 9 amps which I'm not sure if that's normal as I couldn't find an amperage range in the service manual. When the connector is unplugged and plugged back in my car would start again. So..........at the very least I should change the fuel pump connector (after even being able to source on). That is only a symptom of a larger problem as something is making that circuit pull something excessive to cause that connector to heat up. Trying to not throw parts at it but should probably bite the bullet and replace the fuel pump at the same time. It's bullshit that the pump is $350.
Fuel pump connector.
The missus had the dealer service the connector and pump. Funny that Honda had spare connector kits in stock but they had to go elsewhere for a pump. It was $275 at the time. Check places like Rockauto for a better price. Good luck.
Typical current is between 4 and 6 amps. I'll check tomorrow the condition of harness end connector I've cut from the junked car, will check the condition around the pin and condition of the fuel sender wires (to see if they are long enough to be spliced)
Just took apart the fuel pump to show this same issue. I actually recorded the damage because it startled me. 2007 honda fit 110k miles. Honda should definitely issue a recall on this if my hunch that this could become flammable is correct.
