UOA PU 5w-20, 7461 Mi, 07 Fit AT

I'm a long time lurker and figured would post a decent little run of used oil analysis I've had on my wife's 2007 Fit Sport AT. Typically what is posted over on BITOG forum, but figured I would drop one here for anyone looking to compare numbers. Car now has a little over 72,000 miles on it, just haven't had a UOA ran since.

2/25/14 drain and prior was on Mobil 1 5w-20 (mostly SM labeled bottles, maybe a few quarts of SN here and there). 10/02/14 oil change was the first drain of Pennzoil Ultra 5w-20 (mix of SM and SN bottles) that was filled on 2/25/14. Mobil 1 M1-110 oil filters were used throughout this entire run of UOA's. Prior "maintenance" was done by the dealer and was very hit and miss. The first UOA was the 2nd full cycle with M1 and M1-110 oil filter. Most of these oil changes were all city driving with a lot of idle time in NW Florida. Air filter is just a Purolator classic changed every other OC. Engine was significantly more quiet on the PU compared to the chatter it had on Mobil 1 the last few OC's.

Just switched the car over to Amsoil Signature Series 5w-20 and Amsoil EA15k13 oil filter since I have depleted my stash of Pennzoil Ultra and it is impossible to find PU or PUP locally for less than $10/quart. That and the new GTL Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has a significantly higher NOACK % than the older PU product (5% on PU, 10.5% on GTL PUP). Amsoil SS 5w20 is 6.3% for NOACK. No change in engine noise from PU to the Amsoil SS. Hated the M1 chatter that was not related to filter choice.

In the process of 3x D&F on ATF to DW-1 to get rid of Z-1, then not sure from there on ATF choice (another thread on that). Then in-line transmission filter change. After that, all I have left to do right now on this car is valve adjustments and a coolant flush.

Just swapped the spark plugs over to Denso Iridium TT from the stock NGK Iridium as part of the Denso test program. 4 free IK20TT spark plugs and a $60 gas card for filling out 3 gas fill up forms prior to change and 3 gas fill up forms after the change. Brakes are EBC Greenstuff pads on OEM rotors. Brake fluid is ATE super blue. I cycle a light dose of Redline SI-1 through the tank every 3-5k miles.

Didn't mean for this to be my intro, but figured would throw all that of that out there for a background on this car. Been a pretty decent little car except a few of the transmission woes with the pressure switches and HORRIBLE dealer support. We don't really travel much in this car. It's mostly a work commuter for my wife, short errands on the weekends and 1hr max trips out of town. Would like to see over 30mpg a little more regularly though for mix driving. It's been holding around 27mpg avg city/highway until changing the spark plugs. Now 28-29mpg avg with the new plugs. Maybe a valve adjustment will help a little.

I've also got a 2010 Ford F-150 XLT Supercrew 5.4 4x4 145" WB, 2015 Ford Fusion SE 1.5 Ecoboost, and a 2009 H-D FLHTCU. So I stay pretty busy keeping up with maintenance.

Hi, Welcome.

it is impossible to find PU or PUP locally for less than $10/quart.
There is a Pennzoil Synthetic $5.00 coupon you can use at check-out at WallyWorld. Go to Pennzoil.com for details. I bought Platinum for my own oil 'stash', that brought the price down to the same price as Walmart's house brand syn.

Sweet deal on the plugs....

None of the Walmart's here carry Pennzoil ultra or ultra platinum. They do carry platinum but wasn't a huge fan of pp when pu had the extremely low noack and held up better. It's not a bad oil in most cars but it was giving me some added engine noise in some of my applications and didn't seem to hold up as well as the Pennzoil ultra prior to Pennzoil ultra platinum coming around.

I did score a bunch of clearance Pennzoil ultra from Walmart for $21-26 per 5 quart jug. Then Pennzoil was doing $20-25 mail in rebates, plus some of the shell fuel rewards, $5 coupon at register, etc. I probably stock piled somewhere around 75-80 quarts of SM and SN labeled PU 5W20. I hit every Walmart within 300 miles while traveling for work. Basically free oil once it was said and done and got my rebate checks.

So far I'm happy with the Amsoil signature series and XL line. XL has been every bit as good in my 2015 Ford fusion as Pennzoil ultra was and is only $5.85/quart. The signature additive pack is stout and runs me $7.85/quart. OE is only $4.70/quart. Not too horrible when Pennzoil ultra platinum is running $9.99/quart around here when you can find it and Pennzoil platinum is $7-8/quart except at Walmart for $28 for 5qt jug and I avoid Walmart like the plague.

I do miss my "free" PU that performed beautifully.
