Radio from a junkyard

Hello,
I'm a soon to be owner of a Fit that's a bit of a project.

The stereo LCD is bad and I want to replace it with one from a junkyard (or ebay)

I know that the stereos require a code to enable them. Will this be a problem with a junkyard radio? Where do I get the code?

Thanks

What year is the car?

check glovebox for a radio code card or sticker before yanking it out

ask seller for the unlock code before buying

or

obtain radio serial number from the sticker or through the 'button dance' once it's hooked up,

then contact your dealer for the unlock code

or use Hondas radio code website to get unlock code

It's a 2007

So I shouldn't have any issues even if the unlock code is not in the car?

No prob. The unlock code can be obtained using the serial number on the radio, it doesn't matter what car it's in.

The previous link describes how to get the SN electronically too.

Also another way to pull up your serial number is to press and hold button 1 & 6 simultaneously. Then either you can retrieve the radio code online or you can go to your closest Honda dealer to get it.

I did that very thing. I bought a replacement OEM radio from a junkyard that sells over ebay. Obviously I needed the radio code. But this junkyard was smart and professional, and included the VIN and the year make model, of the Fit the radio came out of, so when I went to Honda's web site, I plugged that info in, and got the code immediately. Smooth as silk. And since it came out of a Fit Sport (my fit is not a Sport, just a plain 5MT), the radio had AUX capability, so I wired in an AUX plug and now I have factory AUX. Loving it.
